Term 1 by Rachel

This term was a great term because it was my first term.
Here are some of my highlights of this term:

Moving to Kings Dubai: The morning I joined Kings is a morning that I will never forget! As I walked into the classroom I saw a lot of people staring at me! It was kind of embarrassing! I was afraid to do anything! I thought I was the only new student for a while but when Daniela, Alizaky and Natasha arrived I was glad. Not before long, I settled in.

Inspection week: The first time I heard of an Inspection, I didn't have a clue what everyone was talking about! My old school never had an Inspection! I was really happy to hear on Thursday morning that we got OUTSTANDING!

House caption presentations: Once again, when I heard of House captains and House groups I didn't have a clue what they were because my old school didn't have Houses groups. I soon found out. I enjoyed watching everyone doing their presentations.

Adrian Hayes: I was really excited to hear that he was visiting! It was so cool when he came into year 6! I learnt a lot that morning about how to save out planet from global warming.

I have enjoyed my violin lessons on a Monday but, I am starting to freak because we have to play in assembly on Wednesday and I can tell you, I really hate preforming in front of crowds!

2 things that I am proud of are my Touching the Void presentation sheet and all my Art Work.

I can't wait until next term.

Hazel's Aussie Christmas song

Dear Mr Watson,
Here's my jinglebell post!

The Aussie Jingles
Hey everyone, here's is the aussie version of jingle bells!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
O what fun it is to ride on a one horse open sleigh, HEY!! x 2
Dashing through the bush,
In a rusty Holden ute,
Kicking up the dust,
Esky in the boot!
Kelpie by my side,
Singing Christmas songs,
What fun it is to drive and sing
In my singlet, shorts and thongs! Oooohhhhh...
Jingle bells, Jingle bells, jingle all the way,
O what fun it is to ride on a one horse open sleigh!! HEY!!!

Aussie dictionary
Holden = make of car
Esky = a cooler box where people usually store beer
Kelpie = a type of dog like a blue heeler
Singlet = vest
Thongs = flipflops

Year 6 term1 by Dylan

Well, joining Kings has been great an a great experience. I have settled in well and I have made loads of new friends but in particularly, I would like to thank,
Tomas
Adam
Rory
Oisin
Adam O
Matthew
and Richard for helping me start my new adventure.

My favourite memory was coming to school new and being the 3rd entrance of the Gold book, and the first year 6 student. I have been dazzled with some of my work
and even for me, it is a surprise to acheive such a high - standard peice of work. Getting a good score in all my tests and trying hard, really hard, I can only hope that my next year will be as
good as this year.

I have specifically enjoyed
experimenting on micro-organisms
Auto and biography
and most importantly, the festive fair.

I am looking forward to
writing poems
Results for Secondary schools
And CHRISTMAS!
I hope everyone has a veryMerry Christmas, and an equal new year,

James D's review of term 1

Highlights of term 1 year 6

I have really enjoyed this term and put as much effort in as I can. I think one of my best achievements was the Touching the Void presentation it was also one of my favourites. My mum and dad were really proud of me for doing it. Also getting house captain was the best time of my life in year 6 ever! It’s been really great for me to play for the football team. I didn’t really play that well though, but at least I scored a cracking goal. The team was brilliant and I think we could do better next time. Come on kings!

David Attenborough - Vote for him!!! by Rory

There are many people we could have as our heros, but
my hero is Sir David Attenborough.

Why?

Well, David is a very patient and skilled film maker and has
shown the world things they would never seen at home .
Whether its a polar bear in the artic to bats in Mexico, he
has taken us on a nature roller coaster in the comfort of our
own homes. So if you agree with me please vote for David to
be our hero of the month. -- RoryQ

Jamal's review

Year 6 Term 1

During the first term of year 6 , personally I think I have achieved many things like able to get in the gold book twice and being complimented by teachers. Usually I am very slow in writing presentations, but now I am faster. After focusing and concentrating you can achieve anything ! My motto 'If you believe you will achieve'.
Mr Watson is a fun, exciting and a superb role model ! He has been a fantastic teacher throughout the year. The only horrible thing about him is that he supports IPSWICH !!!

I can't wait to push on in year 6 and know our new theme. We will have fun adventures ahead of us.
JAMAL

Becky's term 1 highlights

I think the first term of year 6 has been great. My particular highlights were art week, the festive fair, becoming house captain, everything really! The theme i've enjoyed the most is micro organisms because I loved doing all the experiments. I am reading some of the poem out in the concert and I am really excited! I hope that by tomorrow our classroom will still be there and not destroyed by the rain!

Next term I can't wait till Dibba, victorians and loads more!

A letter from Eloise

Hi Miss Bates and the rest of the class! Im in Australia now on my uncles computer! This Morning I went to the beach! It was o.k yesterday it was even better, the sea is really blue aswell as the sky! My cousin Seb just went to London with his Dad, but London was just a stopping point because they are going to Canada! My uncle is from Canada so Seb is going to go see Uncle Wayne's (my uncle) side of the family! Its quite hot here, its summer!, yesterday it was about 38'C, but today it dropped to about 30'C !! Its really fun here, soon were going to Rottenest which is like a little island, it takes 15mins on a ferry! My brother, Oli, has come out of the boarding house to be with us whilst were here, he has finished his year, as i remembered him he is still pretty grouchy and lazy! How are the rehearsals going? Are you getting exited!! See you all soon! Eloise! :o) p.s the time difference here is exactly 4 hours!

Lucy's Highlights

I have had lots of fun in the first term of year 6!
Miss Bates is a fantastic teacher and I think we are very lucky to have her as our teacher!

I have enjoyed making the fantastic data bases in I.C.T. with Mr Wood.
Becky, Eloise, Lauren and I have been helping the Key stage 1s at lunch time. The FS2 girls make us pictures and always want to hold our hands! They are sooooo sweet!!
The Festive Fayre was really exiting, I especially enjoyed splatting Mr & Mrs Watson, Mr McGary and Mr Whitehead in splat the teacher!! Everyone was enjoying themselves and having a great time while raising lots of money for K9 Friends and Red Cross.
Having Adrian Hayes in was an incredible experience! Not many people would have had such an opportunity.
I loved playing in the netball match against Raffles (even though we didn't win!) Our team works really hard and we try our best!!
I am still really enjoying playing the clarinet. Just recently I have moved on to the B flat (big one!) which is really challenging!
Art week was really great! We did printing, I.C.T., sketching and pop art OHT backgrounds! I think we all worked hard and finished off with fab art work!!
Working on my biography on Anne Hathaway (actress) was fun and lots of hard work!
It was a really good experience showing parents round the school on open day. There was one lady that kept saying ''Why you not learn Spanish? Why you not learn Spanish?''
Learning about Micro Organisms was fun and stinky!! (The stinky was the cheese!)
The House Captain presentations were really nerve raking and I am pleased for everyone that achieved the role! I think Adam and Molly represent Stuart really well!!
The inspection turned out really well and Kings' got outstanding!!!!!!!!!!

I am really looking forward to next term and the excitements it holds!!

Lucy

Kian's highlights

My Year 6 Review

I have really enjoyed the first term of year 6. My highlights of year 6 are Art Week,Science experiment, learning about micro-organisms, and the visit of Adrian Hayes. I enjoyed Art Week because we got to find out who Andy Warhol is and we got to make a print in a similar style that he used. During science we did an experiment which involved growing bacteria on food.

I am proud of making the schools swim squad especially as I have been made the captain for this year. As the captain I have to collect any trophies that we might win.

This is the first term that basketball has been an after school club and as it is my favourite sport I have enjoyed it a lot.

I am really looking forward to next term.

Kian

The highlights from Term 1 by Chris Greaves

I've had a wonderful time this turm. Miss Bates is really nice and there's still Mr Watson around to annoy!
The christmas fair was really fun, especially when I splatted Mr Watson and Mre Bates vvith wet sponges!
The christmas prank was funny after I realised it was a joke. Before, I was so shocked that Mrs Kenny
would do such a thing. The term went realy fast, I can't really remember much else but i'm sure there was.

Chris

Alec's highlights from the term

My highlights for this term are :
Adrian Hayes coming in to year 6 - His speech was amazing, but the thing that I remember most is him saying tha we would need 7 planets to live on if everyone lived like we do in the U.A.E

The festive fayre- The festive fayre was great fun but the best thing is that the profit went to charity [ which encouraged me to throw more wet sponges at the teachers]

Open day - it's quite nerveracking to be showing round future parents .Shall we proceed

Head boy/girl and house captain elections - I wanted to vote for the chef [daniel]even though he was running against me

Art week- The Year 5's art is brilliant I especially like Max's

Jamals dad coming in-mr.Ollier was really helpful when writing our auto-biographies and reminded us to keep a theasaurus beside us when writing

Touching the void - Touching the void is a spectacular film showing what really happened on sieula grand'e telling you more about "the man who cut the rope" telling of the 8 days of horror

The thing that I am proud of this term is my touching the void presentation sheet/s which I worked really hard on along with my house captain presentation.

Christmas Chaos!!!!

Year 6 NEWSREPORT!

NEWS FLASH

This is BREAKING NEWS! Despite popular belief Mrs Kenny is in fact Innocent!!!!

Today's Christmas Chaos was just fabricated (made up / bajetty! ;-) )
Miss Bates, Mrs Kenny and Mr Watson planned this morning's decoration destruction as an imaginative stimulus for our news report writing - and you all fell for it! TOTALLY!

Dan the detective and brave Becky were the first to suspect that Mrs Kenny has knocked over the Christmas Tree and thrown the decorations on the floor.

Well done for your investigative journalism and detective work, and for creating excellent news reports about today's remarkable and memorable events.

Charlotte's news

Hi Guys!
These are my pictures from my unfortunate Eid Holiday, and I'll tell you what happened...

On the 4th of December I went over to my dads apartment for a sleep-over and on the second day I had to do my maths test and during my maths test the GLASS TABLE shattered all over me!

I got cut 7-8 times all over my arms and a really deep one on my toe! It really hurt! Anyway after the incident there was glass everywhere! And my dad had to carry me to the bathroom to clean myw ounds.
After, my toe was completely swollen! I had to sit on the chair outside so I wouldn't cause ANYMORE DAMAGE to myself!!!!!!
(REMEMBER: The maths homework was to hard and it broke the table, so refuse to get maths homework that is hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Felix's Funny English

Hi guys

My Mum forwarded this to me and its really funny

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this . There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is 'UP.' It's easy to understand UP,meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ?
At a meeting, why does a topic come UP ?
Why do we speak UPand why are the officers UP for election and why is itUP to the secretary to write UP a report ? We call UP our friends.
And we use it to brightenUP a room, polishUP the silver; we warm UP the leftovers and cleanUP the kitchen.
We lock UP the house and some guys fixUP the old car.

At other times the little word has real special meaning.

People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UPexcuses.

To be dressed is one thing, but to be dressed UP is special.
A drain must be openedUP because it is stopped UP.

We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP!

To be knowledgeable about the proper uses ofUP, look the wordUP in the dictionary.

In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions.

If you are UP to it, you might try buildingUP a list of the many ways UP is used.

It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more.

When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP.

When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP...

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.
When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so... it is time to shutUP!

Now it's UP to you what you do with this email/message

Festive Fayre and Eid Mubarak by Mr Watson

The Festive Fayre was brilliant. A big well done and congratulations to the VOKS team and Mrs Watson for all their hardwork and organising. The event was such a success. A tremendous end to the end of this busy section of the term.

Congratulations too to all of the year 6 helpers who spent time making sure the event ran smoothly - you were superb as usual!!!

Finally..... THANKS VERY MUCH for all of my Year 6 'friends' who absolutely soaked me and the other teachers in the stocks! The looks of total focus and pleasure in your eyes as the sponges were thrown into my face was quite worrying!!! ;-)

A great night - Please email any photos to me so I can add them to the blog!!!

so....
Happy Holidays everyone. EID MUBARAK.

Charlotte goes Karting

Hello everyone!
On Saturday, I went with my dad to STARGATE in Zabeel Park to do some Go-Carting. I really enjoyed it.

In twelve minutes I had managed to do 23 laps at a speed of 40-60mph. My best time was my ninth lap, 17 seconds! I was the second best out of the whole day!

My best moment was when I was going around the corner at break-neck speed and doing a 360 turn and smashing against the side! Gosh! My heart was beating like the beat of a birds wing beat! I thought I was going to flip over!

If nobody knows where STARGATE is its in Zabeel Park near WAFI. Keep you updated!Charlotte

An extract from 6JW’s Adrian Hayes Biography ‘On Top of the World'

An extract from 6JW’s Adrian Hayes Biography ‘On Top of the World'

At last! Adrian had finally achieved his life long goal. There he was, standing as proud as a lion, on top of the world. Reaching the mighty summit of the towering Mount Everest was no mean feet, especially with a troublesome breathing mask. Blank, astonishing white surrounded his magnificent view. Despite not being able to feel his feet, his physical and emotional endurance had paid off. Adrian was literally 'Over the clouds' at what he and the team had just achieved.

The above is an example of the standard of writing we are looking for in your biography homework. We wrote this as a class On Sunday (22nd Nov).
Look at the brilliant description we included. We used a simile, complex sentences and lots of great vocabulary.

Remember to do the same in your writing – make it exciting, engaging and interesting!

'Zat you Santa Claus?

'Zat you, Santa Claus?

Gifts I'm preparin'
For some Christmas sharin'
But I pause because
Hangin' my stockin'
I can hear a knockin'
'Zat you, Santa Claus

Sure is dark out
Not the slighest spark out
Pardon my clackin' jaws
Uh, who there
Who is it
Uh, stoppin' for a visit'
Zat you, Santa Claus

Are you bringin' a present for me
Something pleasantly pleasant for me
That's what I've been waitin' for
Would you mind slippin' it under the door

Four winds are howlin'
Or maybe that be growlin'
My legs feel like straws
Oh my, my, me, my
Kindly would you reply
'Zat you, Santa Claus
Yeah

DANCE
Oh hangin' my stockin'
I can hear a knockin'
'Zat you, Santa Claus

DANCE

Yeah hey there, who is it
Stoppin' for a visit
'Zat you, Santa Claus
Whoa there Santa you gave me a scare
Now stop teasin' 'cause I know you're there
We don't believe in no goblins today
But I can't explain why I'm shakin' this way
Well I see old Santa in the keyhole
I'll give to the cause
One peek and I'll try there
Uh-oh there's an eye there
'Zat you, Santa Claus
Please, pleaseI
’m bending my knees
Say that's you Santa Claus

That’s him alright!!!

Rory's big swim!

The Burj Swim

Yesterday my mum and I woke up at 6 o'clock and went down to
the Burj Al Arab Dubai for the Wild Wadi swim for MSF,(Medecine
San Frontier.) The swim was about 800 metres and it took us
about 15 minuites.

There was a competitive swim race, ( the guys with green caps)
Team Relay(orange caps) and a family swim (yellow caps) and
in all just over 600 swimmers look part. That is more than double
last years number. The best time was by a 16 year old lad who
got round in 7min 43 seconds...

All that swimming got me hungry enough for family Dim Sum Lunch..!!

Francesca's swim report

On Thursday we had the 2nd league gala at Kings' against ASD (American School Dubai),EC ,Wellington, Horizon, Greenfiel.

They all did so well and as we were getting closer to the end we were only 3 points away from Horizon it was so intense at that point .
We won most of the races and everyone was so happy.
In the end Kings' won and we were so happy everyone was jumping up and down and screaming (INCLUDING Rose ,Kristi and my self)

and the final score was EC 6th,Wellington 5th,Greenfield 4th, ASD 3rd,Horizon 2nd and we were first.

Uzair! by Tomas and Adam

Today we heard that Uzair was sadly leaving in three weeks.

Adam: I have known Uzair for 5 years and have really enjoyed being his classmate every year. I am really annoyed that he is leaving as it is fun to play football with him and make fun of Liverpool! Uzair is the kindest boy I know and I have never had a fight with him. I wish him all the best in London. I hope I can see you there. You have been great!

Tomas: When I arrived in year 5 I realised that Uzair was a really nice boy. He is kind, gentle and friendly. I really enjoy playing football at school with him. You are the best striker in the class. When you shoot you have an amazing power that not many people have. I wish you all the best.

Captain Matthew reports on Kings' vs GEMS world

Year 6 Match

On Sunday 15th November 2009 the year 6 team played Gems World Academy in a close match. In the first half both teams had some great chances which both goalies kept out, we looked like scoring more than GWA as our attacking was more threatening then theirs was.

Early on into the second half GWA took the lead when there was an unmarked man who gathered the ball in the box and placed it into the bottom corner of the goal. Minutes after, they scored another goal from one of their strikers who cut into the box and hammered the ball into the roof of the net. Late on into the game our defender, Tomas, played a long ball to Matthew who had a shot that went pass the post, the game finished 2-0 to GWA unlucky everyone who played.

The team was: Zac in goal, Tomas, Adam and Chris in defence, Dylan, Matthew, Oisin, Adam O in midfield and James in attack.

Adrian Hayes Visit to Kings Dubai
On the 10th/11/09 Adrian Hayes came to visit Kings Dubai to give the year sixes and the rest of the school a talk about his latest trip to Greenland.
He started off talking to us about the trip and what he had to do and what training he did like pulling a tyre across the desert. After that he showed us a slide show on the earth and where it was and what you have to do to get there. Then he showed us a ten minute video about his trip. He also showed us a very powerful video featuring pollution and animals and basically killing our earth made by his son’s class.
After that he came back to the year six classroom and we started the interview. Once we read the question he would answer it in detailed answers.
We found out that:
o The North Pole was the hardest
o His greatest achievement was summiting Everest
o All the trips took the same amount of training
o The tempo was between -59 and 10 degrees Celsius
o He was the fittest in his team up Everest
o 15th person up Everest
o 3 more people have done it since
o He is going through the desert and the south pole next
o He trained by pulling tyres with things in it
o He is very good at geography
o The length for his quest to Greenland is the same length as going from London to Cairo

After that we all stood with him for a photo and some of us got his autograph. We really enjoyed having him and I hope he can come again.

Olivia on Adrain Hayes

Adrian Hayes

I thought that Adrian Hayes was a very insperational man ,and had a very down-to-earth attitude, he was very knowledgable.

Here are some facts I found on him:

He was the 15th person to reach all 3 poles(the North Pole, South Pole and Mount Everest) and was also in the Guiness World records for being the fastest person to reach all 3 poles. He trained by pulling his son in tyres at a temperature 45-degrees and also using weights . He stood on the 29,029ft summit of Mt Everest on May 25, 2006.

He has recently been around Greenland from the atlantic Ocean on the north coast between May and July 2009.It was an expedition which had never been done before, with two Canadian team mates;Devon McDiarmid and Derek Crowe.Using the power of the wind to kite ski and haul 150kg sleds for 2 months over a 3500km route that has never been done before, the Emirates NBD Greenland Quest was the longest unassisted Arctic Polar journey in history. They all say "The expedition is not about breaking records, however, nor is it just an extreme physical challenge. Aside from being an adventure that all three of us want to do first and foremost, it is also to convey a message: That is we live on 1 planet and need to stop living, in countries such as the USA and UAE.We are living in the UAE so badly that we would have to use 9 planets to take all the polution and electronics that we use!"

Adrian Hayes taught me alot about the enviorment and I will use my water wisely and use my electronics less!

I really enjoyed him coming into School.

Hi Year 6, I have just sat and looked through your blog, it took me ages!!! Some great posts and some funny ones too.

Good to see how you are all doing as I don't get to see you much apart from the odd wave in assembly. I bet Adrain Hayes was great and I am sure he was proud to see the display with his photos on it.

I see Mr Ollier was in too, what a great idea, well done Adam, Uzair and Hazel.

Hope I can get over to Year 6 soon to see some of your work.

By the way I love the photo of Luke (It's good to be me).

Lucy thinks Adrian is......

Today Adrian Hayes, a famous polar explorer, came in and talked to us about his latest expedition to Greenland! He was the 2nd person to go from north to south of Greenland.
The slush, thin ice and the crevasses were the biggest problems.
3 words I would describe him as would be; brave, determined and focused.
I would like to do some things like Adrian has done, but I don't think I would make it through to the end because I'm not used to the cold climates and I would find the training too hard.
A thing that I learned today was that Adrian Hayes was the 15th person to reach all 3 poles. North & south pole and Mount Everest.
A horrid fact that I found out was that when he was climbing Everest, his friend lost all his fingers!! Yuck!

I think Adrian Hayes is FANTASTIC!!!!!
Lucy

Felix enjoyed Adrian's visit to Year 6

Adrian Hayes came in to us today to expain why the world is important and what would happen if we dont take care of it. To be honest I sometimes leave the tap running when i brush my teeth but now im going to take much more care.

We also learned that electicity is to be used only when we need it. After the assembaley with Adiran Hayes he came into our class where we broght the A/C down to 16 degrees C to make him feel more comfortable and he awnsered all our question. I think our visit from Adrian Hayes has been the best yet in 6JW/6LB.

Kian talks about Adrian Hayes

Adrian Hayes Review

Adrian Hayes came into day and did a speech to the whole of KS2 and then did a question and answer session with the year 6. He told told us about the enviroment and how if Greenland melted the water level would rise by 8 metres. Another thing he told us if every body in the world acted how we act in the U.A.E we would need 7 whole planets.

All the things that Adrian Hayes told us were really good but I really liked it when he said about how many worlds we would have to live on if we act how we act. Thing thing that ment the most to me we the video of all the good things about are world that are good and the things that are bad.

I think I would like to do one of his expoditions because they sound sound adventurous and I challenging and I like a challenge ! ! !

I am inspired by Adrian Hayes because he never gives up and he all ways try's his best.

Francesca on Adrian

Adrian Hayes

I thought that Adrian Hayes was really informative and I really enjoyed having him in.
I was very inspired by him and I thought that it was really interesting that he was only the 15th person out of 6 billion and probably more people to climb Mount Everest, in the shortest time. He said that the North Pole was the hardest part out all of them and the coldest, he said that it sussed to go down to -40 and lower. They were so scared that they would get really bad frost bite. I got so much information .I found him really motivational and maybe on day I would think of doing one of those things.
Francesca

Matthew talks about Adrian Hayes

Adrian Hayes Review

Today in school Adrian Hayes, an international adventurer, came into assembly and gave us a speech about his expeditions; going across Greenland, to both poles and climbing Everest. Adrian Hayes told us some really interesting information about his adventures and about global warming, I think the most interesting fact that I found out today was that he was the 15th person in the world to climb Everest and go to both Poles, also he did it in the quickest time ever. Another really interesting fact was that if everyone lived like Europeans then we would need three worlds to live on, if everyone lived like they do in Canada and the U.S.A then we would five worlds to live on and if everyone lived like they do in the U.A.E we would need seven worlds to live on. He then came over to year 6 and answered our questions that we made up for him.

I don't think that I would ever dream of doing any of the climbing or hiking that Adrian Hayes has done because I think it is far to risky and just naturally not what I want to do when I'm older. I definitely think he is an inspirational person and inspired me to look after the environment more than I have been doing.

Jamal reflects on Adrian's achievements

ADRIAN HAYES REVIEW

Adrian Hayes is an extremely talented, courageous and adventurous explorer; he faced unchartered landscapes, encountered numerous challenges and horrors of the most hostile and extreme environments on the planet; the two poles and the highest mountain. His expeditions and travels have truly been life threatening and a great test of character, skill and bravery.

During his school presentation he has opened our eyes to the natural environment of the world and how we need to develop ways of protecting our future planet, in terms of generating energy, saving water and encouraging awareness in poor countries.

I admire Adrian’s commitment and preparation to his adventures such as rigorous training and constantly planning until everything is perfect.

I would really like to climb K – 2 and complete other amazing tasks.

Joshua on Adrian

ADRIAN HAYES

1) Adrian Hayes told use to save our planet and we only have one planet to live on.
2) The favourite thing I found about Adrian was it took him 67 days to walk from one end of Greenland to the other end side of Greenland.
3) Yes I would like would walk Greenland also gust like Adrian did.
4) He has inspired me to ride a boat around the world.
5) Yes he is inspirational after he had talked to use he made me thing I want to walk across the Greenland.

Emily.... reflects on Adrian's Visit

I enjoyed Adrian Hayes because I thought he was very interesting. I think it is amazing that he has trecked over North Pole, South Pole, Greenland whilst also climbing Mount Everest. I think he is courageous, ambitious and very confident in himself. He is also very selfless and cares lots about out environment. Some of the expeditions Adrian has been on have had charities supporting them and he has raised money for them. Adrian is not just doing what he does for fame but he does it to help the earth and to raise money for charity. The favourite thing that I found out about him was that he was the 15th out of 18 (so far) to have reached the two poles and Mount Everest and that he did that in the shortest amount of time in the world.

I don't think I'd ever like to climb Mount Everest and so on but I still think that what he's done is amazing. I think Adrian Hayes is definitely inspirational because of everything he's done and the way he is so motivated to what he does.

Year 6 meet our Hero Of the Month...the UAE's very own Explorer extroadinaire Mr Adrian Hayes

Adventurer Adrian Hayes was in Kings' today (10th November 2009)! Mr Watson arranged for him to come to talk to Keystage 2 in assembly about his recent amazing adventure accross Greenland. The purpose of this trip was to raise awareness about climate change.

Adrian showed video footage of his Greenland trip and talked about climate change. He also showed a powerful set of images about our Amazing world, and some of the damage we are doing to it. We all were captivated by his words, images and presentation.

Year 6 were then extremely lucky then to have Adrian spend an hour taking our questions. Miss Bates and I were so impressed by the standard of questions you asked.

Adrian was only the 15th person in the entire world ever to Reach the summit of Mount Everest, and reach both the North and South pole. Now 18 people have done this - but Adrian holds the record for doing it in the shortest time.

We all agreed Adrian is an inspirational person!

A real life Hero in Year 6!
A fantastic day!

Well done everyone! Thanks so much Adrian!

Visit from Adrian Hayes by Lauren

My Review on Adrian Hayes:

Today, on Tuesday 10th November 2009 Adrian Hayes came to talk to us about his latest expedition to Greenland and his other 3. (the North Pole, the South Pole and Mount Everest)
At first he came to talk to the whole of Ks2,and he showed us a video, when his computer started working again!
On the video he showed us how he traveled (skis and kites) , the beautiful views, who he went with and much more!
After he showed us a little presentation of how the word it could be and then the world if we didn't look after it, the pictures that i found the worst were the animals.
Then, we were very lucky, Adrian came to year 6 and let us ask some questions!
I think we asked some pretty good questions because for some he had to take a moment to think about. When Mr. Watson asked his question (what adjectives would you use to describe you self) he answered Focused and Determined.
I think this was a GREAT opportunity to have and i can't wait to here about his next epedition!

Kings' Dubai vs Greenfield - Football match report, 9th November 2009

Yr6 Match Report

On Monday 9th November 2009 the Kings Dubai yr6 team travelled across to the Green Community to play Greenfield. The first half got under way with some lovely one twos by Oisin and Matthew who slotted a pass to James who then scored a lovely goal by placing the ball into the bottom corner. This of course gave us great confidence to go on and score another goal minutes later. The second goal was set up with some great play by Adam O who whipped the ball into the box and Oisin was there to tap the ball into the open half of the goal. Minutes after Greenfield had kicked off, Matthew stole the ball and had a long range effort which the keeper was forced to save. There was no time for any more chances and shortly afterwards the referee blew the whistle to end the first half.

The second half was very different. Greenfield were very near to scoring early into the half, but Adam B put in a tackle and cleared the ball out of danger. Later on in the half we had a couple of great chances which fell to James and Uzair who were unfortunate not to score. Greenfield then caught us out on the break with an attack which resulted in them gaining an indirect free kick close to our goal. Greenfield passed back to one of thier midfielders who had a decent effort that rattled the bar, and Zac was able to kick the ball out of danger. Shortly after the referee blew the whistle to end the game. The game finished 2-0 to Kings Dubai!!

Team: Zac in goal, Adam B and Matthew in defence, Adam O, Oisin, Dylan and Joushua D in midfield and James and Uzair in attack.

Year 6 Football Match report - Kings' vs Jebel Ali Nov 8th December

Yr6 Match Report

On Sunday 8th November 2009 the Kings Dubai Yr6 football team traveled to Jebel Ali to play Jebel Ali primary school, in what was a extremely narrow game. The game started of with a couple of good chances from each team, neither team could score though. Thanks to Zac we were kept in the game although we looked more likely to score!!
The second half was pretty much the same as neither team manged to score, even though it was a narrow game Jebel Ali did not really look like scoring. With minutes to spare Dylan had a wild shot that unfortunately went inches past the post, the referee blew the final whistle and we shook hands on a nil nil draw.

Team: Zac in goal, Adam B and Matthew in defence, Dylan, Oisin and Adam O in midfield and James and Uzair in attack.

Yr6 Match Report

On Sunday 1st November 2009 Kings' Dubai Y6 team raveled to E.I.S Medows to play E.I.S Medows in what was a very tight match!

The first half produced very few chances. Kings' had much the better of the possession but we were unable to create any clear opportunities to score.

After the break EIS were stronger but our defensive pair of Adam and Tomas managed to keep them out. Our goalkeeper Zac was also forced to make a couple of good saves from close range to keep us in the game.

We were unable to break the deadlock despite a few late shots from the midfield and the game finished 0-0

The team was Trever M and Zac in goal, Oisin M, Adam O, Matthew B (C) and Dylan R in midfield, Adam B, Tomas F-B, Joshua D in defence and James D as our striker. (we did not all play at the same time!!!!)

I have been looking at Andy Warhol's work in preparation for next week's art work and really love some of the colourful images he created,

My particular favourite is one inpsired by one of my favourite films STAR WARS. I love the iconic image of the stromtrooper's helmets used in this image.

I have been playing online and managed to make one of my own too. What do you think?

Sunday: On Sunday we started the week very well carrying on with our auto-biographies. We started watching a great movie called "Touching the void" and paused on a real cliff- hanger!

Monday: The inspectors came to school and evaluated how OUTSTANDING we are!

Tomas and I were asked what was the best thing about the school. We replied " there are no gangs, the school plays together as one."

Tuesday: The next day of inspectors where they watched us in Arabic. Ithink we impressed them and did a great job.

Wednesday: We carried on watching "Touching the void" and we kept saying "NO" when Mr.Watson paused. Thanks to him we had some great discussions.

Thursday: Some of us finished our auto-biographies and we finished"Touching the void".

Everyone survived. It was a great movie and hasbeen a great week.Thank you MR.Watson!

Touching The Void

We have been watching and discussing Touching the Void. WOW!

To describe it, we used words like:
gripping, emotive, heartwarming, engaging, amazing, action paced, touching and powerful.

We watched in 3 chunks and disucssed it in detail. We all agreed it was an amazing film. Everyone was captivated by it!

It links in with our theme in lots of ways - it was based upon an autobiography, it involved interviews (open questions!), and is linked to the exploration and challenge work (like Adrian Hayes) we are starting to look at it.

We used the opportunity to have superb discussions about the powerful description of both the scenary and, perhaps more inportantly, the emotions the people in the film experienced.
Beautiful scenery and excellent cinematography highlight this true-life story of two young adventurers who, in 1985, attempt to be the first climbers to reach the top of imposing Siula Grande, in Peru. The two actual climbers, Joe Simpson and Simon Yates, narrate the story, while two stand-in actors re-enact the climbing.

A big part of the film is Joe's quest merely to survive, once he becomes separated from Simon. Toward this objective, he calls forth inner strength in the form of two mental processes: first, make a decision and then act on it; second, set small goals or targets. During his ordeal a part of him keeps pushing: "You have to do this, this, and this, if you're going to get there; come on, keep moving, keep moving; right, get up, and do it again".

In a docudrama like this, acting ability is not that important. What is important is the cinematography. The mountain scenery is spectacular. The camera also captures visual perspective, by backing away from the two climbers, or Joe alone in the second half, to reveal how small and insignificant they are against the towering mountain face, or lost within the vast expanse of a huge glacier, peppered with a maze of dangerous crevasses.

"Touching The Void" is a great story of survival set amid the majestic splendor of the mountains of Peru.

Read more about it on:

Tell Miss Bates and I all about what you thought of this film, by adding comments to this comment.
