Richard’s highlights this term

A little Twist of Oliver

A little Twist of Oliver is One of my highlights because everyone tried their best, sang their heart out and spoke clearly. I the beginning, Lauren set the tone and everyone continued acting their part. I really liked it and I wish we could do it again.

Dibba

I was really excited when we got off the bus and saw the North Star camp. I shared a cabin with Adam, Josh D and Dylan. In our spare time we played football or volleyball. Some of the activities were mountain biking, rock climbing, archery and kayaking. I really wish we could have had another night at Dibba.

March of the penguins

When Mr Wood told us we were going to do a photo story on penguins I was excited. We all chose photos and Mr Wood showed us how to do transitions and how to get rid of black borders. When we all finished a week later we all watched each other’s and voted. Everyone’s was good and my favourite was Jamal.

Dylan thinks about term 2

I have really enjoyed ths term and I think it has been the best so far.

I have sooo many things i have enjoyed and to be honest i can't pick my favourite.

Though I can list them all.

Myst: Myst was a really fun topic and it really boosted our writing abilities. We learnt how to use effective language, e.g similies. Adjectives and many other great skills. We even got a chance to play the game that inspired us to write. We spent about 1 week altogether writing and producing our final piece and now we have 3 books. 6JW's 6LB's and a whole school one which is currently in the library. I think in the end we have all came out with our finest pieces of writing yet and it will be tough to set our standerds that high again

March of the penguins: This was another really good topic because we go to discover a lot of information about penguins and it was really fun to watch the movie. we watched several informative documentaries about penguins and then we got to design our very own short trailor. We made our own paintings which were really good and after we had gathered all our knowledge we transfered it on to a presentation sheet

A little twist of Oliver: This was a great show which was well shown and practiced. After a 2 and a bit weeks of practise we finally managed to pull a great show off with all our lines proffesionally. I was pleased with my part and i thought as a year group we all did really well.

Dibba: Dibba was really fun because it was a good way to spend some time with people you might not normally spend with. I am in the Tudor house but i still got to see my other friends from the other houses as well. The meals were really nice in dibba and the activities were really good as well. I really enjoyed mountain biking because it was really good to jump on the slopes and ride in the open wadi. I also liked the other activities aswell.

All and all this has been a great term and i have made some great friends!
I hope next term is just as much fun.

Thankyou for a great term

My Term 2 Review

This term has been packed full of really exciting things, including:

Myst: Myst was amazing. We all did descriptive work of the highest quality, and pushed beyond our usual standard. We also played a bit of the computer game, although that was quite tricky!!

March of the penguins: In March of the Penguins we watched some breathtaking documentaries about Antarctica and the Emperor Penguins. Then we each made our own small advert/clips about penguins, and made our own abstract paintings of small, detailed parts. We also wrote up small, informative text to go along with it.

Dibba: We all went on a school trip to Dibba, where we experienced different activities such as mountainbiking and rockclimbing. It Rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oliver: Year 6 put on an amzing Kings-style version on the Victorian Classic Oliver Twist!! After loads of practicing we showed off our skills in the final performances. Starring Matthew as Oliver, Chris as the Artful Dodger, Jamal as Fagin and Rose as Nancy!

Victorian Day: To top it off, children and teachers all dressed up and acted as Victorians. Boys are smarter than girlss. We must not talk. That was what it was like in the Victorian days!

This has been a great term.

Spring Term

This term was awesome with all the busy things weve been doing.

Everyone has been working really hard at lots of things like Myst, The Victorians, Oliver, March of the penguins, Dibba, sports day, swim gala.

Everything has been really exciting and hard work.
Myst was really cool in an unusual world. We played the game and wrote about it and everyone produced a brilliant peace of work and it all fitted in to our book.

My favourite thing was learning about the Victorians, writing and drawing pictures, it was lots of hard work and effort put into it and i enjoyed learning everything about it. There was some really interesting facts about the victorians.

Oliver was one of my favourite school plays i have done ever! I really enjoyed it, I was quite nervous at the start but then we did it so many times it got really fun and had lots of confidence.

Penguins are so cute and I loved watching lots of DVDs about them, we also painted some wonderful pictures of penguins along with a peice of writing.
Dibba was one of the best times of my life, with lots of outdoor activitys. I had lots of fun with all my friends.

Sports day and the swim gala were the loudest times ive shouted and screamed ever, chearing and supporting my team, but everyone together it was unbearable!

Thankyou Mr Watson, Miss Bates, Mrs Kenny and Mrs Putt for helping us all with our hard work and being excelent teachers!

Charlotte's Dad big fight

This is my dad fighting his opponent on 'Fight Night V.' Kushaan 'The Pitbull' Senaratne. Alll the boxers had to have nicknames, my dads was 'The Daddy'. Because of two reasons: 1, he is a dad of me and my sister and 2, he is the oldest boxer on the team and through out the squad. He won his fight due to his number of upper cups, left hooks, right hooks and jabs. As you all know he got a BIG trophy! Here is just an awesome picture of him defeting his opponent!

Term 2 by Corynn

This term has been the best ever! We have done such great things that I will tell you about.

Dibba: On Tuesday 9th February, year 6 went to Dibba. We got involved in so many different activities like:

Mountain Biking (My Favourite)

Night Walk

Kayaking

GPS Navigation

Talent Show

Rock Climbing

Abseiling (SCARY!)

Archery (COOL!)

All the activities were so much fun and I hope to go to Dibba again in Secondary School.

March of the Penguins: In school, we learnt all about Emperor Penguins and watched March of the Penguins. We used Photostory and made a Penguin video with facts and info.We also did powder paintings and presentations on the penguins.

Myst: Year 6 discovered this Myst lll Exile game, and all wrote a descriptive page of the scenery in the game. Once they were finished, we put them together and made a book. The book is now in the Library available for anyone to read.

Oliver: Year 6 put on a show called: A Little Twist of Oliver, we all had a speaking line and even some people had a solo. We performed to the school on Monday morning and then to the parents on the Tuesday evening. It was absoloutely brilliant and I enjoyed it soooooooooooooooooooo much.

Macbeth: After the Oliver show, the teachers thought we had been working soooooooooooo hard, they decided to take us to the Macbeth show. It was super, and I am sure everyone enjoyed it. My favourite character was the door answerer ( AKA the funny guy!). He entertained the audience, and told great jokes!

Victorian Day: On Thursday 27th March, year 6 experianced the life of victorian children. We learned what they did, and even had some P.T Drills. Dan probably got caned the most, he even had to come into the girs room!

Term 2 has been great, I have loved it. We have learned such grest things and have been on fantastic trips.

James D reflects on Vicotrian Day

Victorian Day Review

Victorian day was held in Year 6 King Georges School at 7:45am, Thursday 25th of March.

Year 6 all lined up at the gates, the boys and girls were separated in different classes and already the teachers were shouting. Mr Johnson (Mr Watson) with Miss Lawrence (Miss Bates) lead us into the classrooms. The classrooms were black and dull with a chalk board and even a DUNCE hat. We stood behind our desks immediately and sang the national anthem ‘’God Save the Queen’’, then set off to assembly not being able to talk to anyone but people were giggling and smirking as this was a different experience to what they were used to.

After assembly we went back to the classroom, at the back of the class was my seat with Josh D. We did lots of lessons like simple maths, spelling, poems, and writing with quiffs. At break we had our snack quietly, we were not allowed to run and play on the field; we were only allowed to walk round it. It was time to go back inside to the miserable classrooms. There were more lessons and some people got caned these were Jamal, Adam O, and Rory it was very funny but to have that happen to you in (real) Victorian times was really scary. Adam b and Daniel were in the dunce corner a few times facing the wall, I felt sorry for them but at the same time it was hilarious! It was sad that in Victorian times children weren’t even allowed to smile.

Then finally there was lunch and we repeated the same thing as break we ate and then walked. I felt bored just walking around an empty field. It was actually no exercise. We came back inside and we had a special treat...

‘’GRUEL!’’We said our prayers and tried to force down this sloppy horrible porridge.

After there was P.E which in our tight clothes which made us very hot, but was some simple marching and throwing balls around and skipping with rope. It was the end of the day and everyone was relieved it was over! It had been such a busy, but vile Victorian day!

I wouldn’t really have liked to live in the Victorian times, I feel really sorry for the Children getting caned for tripping over or something like that. I’m just glad I wasn’t one of them.

Olivia Reflects on Term 2!

My Highlights of this term

I have really enjoyed this term! Everything has been great, my highlights for this term are:

Victorian Day

I thought Victorian day was great! I really enjoyed the experience of being a Victorian child and having a Victorian classroom and doing Victorian subjects, like sewing and eating gruel-though it didn’t taste nice it was still fun to try it for the first time! I got the giggles quite a lot and I found some things quite nerve-racking like the writing for instance, though I think everyone found that hard especially when you had to write with an ink pen-the ink would go everywhere! I defiantly found Victorian one of my highlights!

A little Twist of Oliver

Oliver was great; it was refreshing to get out of my comfort zone with the acting and singing. I am so glad we did Oliver because now I have those great songs stuck in my head, I also was really happy with my role and learning the lines was interesting seeing as I was pushing myself so that I added extra expression into my speech and my movements. When I went up on stage I had a mixture of emotions- I was excited and a bit nervous, but when I got into it I was fine and started to enjoy myself with the singing and acting! When we watched the DVD it was funny watching myself, I found it quite embarrassing to see how I did and seeing people’s reactions (there reactions were good!) When the DVD was finished it seemed that it must have been a great show! Oliver was really fun and interesting and I loved doing it and seeing how talented some of the class are!

Year6 has been so great and loads of fun!! I am excited about next term and looking forward to more exciting events like the ones we have had this year! Can’t wait…

Zac's term 2 highlights

My highlights for this term had to be March of the Penguins, Myst, Oliver and Dibba. My overall favorite would be Dibba because i had so much fun conquering the rock climbing wall and going over jumps in mountain biking. Myst was excellent to because i really enjoyed improving our descriptive writing (and playing the game). I thought it was a really good idea to base descriptive writing on a PC game. March of the Penguins was fun because we had to put all are knowledge of the computers and put them into the one big thing. It was also really great because we got to show off are computer skills and use are imagination. Oliver, Oliver, Oliver cannot get over how brilliant it was, everyone put sssoooo much effort and enthusiasm into it it almost was as good as the original play. I really enjoyed learning the lines and going through the different parts of the play.

Ys, this term i had so much fun Ihope everyone else did to.

Zac

Becky thinks....

I have LOVED term 2. Wev'e done so many exciting things including:

Penguin work- I really enjoyed our work on the penguins, all the presentations were really good and I learned a lot of new info.

Dibba- Dibba was amazing, I enjoyed every bit of it! I was in a cabin with the rest of the funky monkeys, Eloise, Lucy and Lauren. When we first got there I did mountain biking, which I had never done before, and I found it exciting, scary and hard work all at the same time! The second day I did kayaking and GPS. In kayaking it was really great but after falling out and bruising yourself several times it got a bit cold and chilly. In GPS I was with Kristi and Ashleigh and I went a bit crazy, there was a scary man who kept following us everywhere! Our word was walking. And finally I did rock climbing, abseiling and archery. I was quite good at rock climbing but I found the abseiling quite nerve racking, especially at the beginning when you lean back. In archery I had to use a special lefted handed bow and the thing you balance the arrow on was broken so I had to where socks on my hands!

A little Twist of Oliver!- I loved doing a little twist of Oliver, everyone put so much effort into it and I thought Chris and Jamal did particularly well in it. I can't wait till the summer production I hope it will be as good as this!
Victorian day- I thought victorian day was super fun but really scary, well done to all the teachers for staying so well in character! I got told of loads of times, I really wouldn't want to be a child in the victorian times! The classrooms looked amazing with all the blacked out windows, it really brought the day to life. My name was Mildred Sidwell and Olivia was my sister, Victoria Sidwell. I loved doing the writing even though I'm left handed and my writing was really messy!

Overall I think year 6 has been wonderful, way better than I thought it would be! I can't wait until next term except for the Silly Annoying Tests but they have to be done. Get it?! I hope everyones had just as much fun as I have had!

Becky

Rory reflects on term2!

RORY REFLECTS ON TERM 2
This term has been really amazing and I cant wait until next term. We have done loads

of activity's such as the myst writing, penguin photo storys ,Dibba, Oliver and Victorian

day.

Myst was really good and everybody produced a quality piece of work. We also played the game

although I didn't do that well at it !

During our ICT week we did our penguin photostorys with Mr Wood. It was really fun and I learnt

allot of new ICT skills. Also, as part of our penguin theme we did some abstract penguin art,

which were also really good.Instead of a whole penguin we did small but detailedbits. They looked

really effective.

Oliver tied in really well with our Victorian work and everybody learnt there lines and stuff. Also,

people who are not very confident at acting did well and you really couldn't notice a difference. I

think Jamal, Cris and Alec did extremely well and Jamal should stop kings and o to acting school.

He has got some real talent!

Victorian day was really different to anything i have done before and I feel really sorry for the real victorian

children! school must have been hell for them!
Thankyou for such a wonderful term

Victorian Day by Benedict Hetherby - A.K.A Paul

Victorian Day.

When we arrived at school we all had to line up either side of the school gates. Girls one side and boys on the other. When Mr Johnson arrived we all stood to attention. I got told off for smiling, I got quite a fright. Mr Johnson was so strict. We marched off to class and to my surprise we were in separate classrooms. The classrooms were great, really old fashioned looking. I did really well at writing with the quill and ink. Mr Johnson actually said I had very neat handwriting.

We did not have much of a playtime, it was all very quiet and a lot of walking around the field.

We learnt about the potato and where it came from. We did some Geography and science and also some poetry. We learnt the national anthem, which we sung quite a few times.

The worst part of the day was the ‘gruel’ I actually thought I was going to be sick. It was very lumpy and watery.

James M reflects on being a Victorian in school

I got really excited about Victorian Day and I woke up at 4.30 and couldn’t go back to sleep! When we went to school, I felt a bit nervous when Mr Watson and Miss Bates first came out, because they looked scary and serious. Mr Watson yelled at some people who were talking in the line and he checked to see if our hands and shoes were clean.

When I first entered the classroom, it was dark and black and I sat down next to Richard at the front which was really the back of the class! The girls were in Miss Bates’ classroom and the boys were in Mr Watson’s room. Mr Whitehead came to the class and he was really scary too. He yelled at Dan and Adam for laughing and being a dunce. I got into trouble for leaving my quill out once and I got shouted at a few times. I also lost my name tag. We weren’t allowed to write with our left hand, so I had to try and use my right hand. My writing was quite good with my right hand.

After recess they gave us mingin gruel. I got given extra because I gave Mr Watson some banana bread, but I didn’t think it was such a good reward. I ate half and then felt like throwing up and so didn’t eat the rest. Richard said it didn’t taste like anything and he ate it all!

We had to do drills and we learnt how to march properly. I quite enjoyed doing that.
Overall, I thought the day was good and fun.

Matthew on Victorian Day

Victorian Day

On Thursday the 25th March 2010 year 6 experienced a harsh day in the life of a Victorian school child. We all dressed up for this occasion and so did Mr Watson and Miss Bates, who played the roles of Mr Johnston and Miss Lawrence as teachers in King George. The classrooms were made to look like a Victorian classroom with black card covering the windows meaning that only strips of sunlight could come bursting through the gaps. All the desks were made to look like Victorian desks and the work we did during the day was the same work that Victorians would have done.

The Day

When we arrived at the gate we all had to get into two lines one for boys and one for girls. If there was any talking or laughing it would be the back of the line. When Mr Johnston and Miss Lawrence arrived they did a hand inspection. After the inspection Mr Johnston lead the boys into King George and waited for us to all find a place. When this was done Mr Johnston told us some rules and went through the extremely tough day ahead, but to start with it was assembly. In assembly we were introduced to the rest of the school as strangers from the past and that they were not allowed to speak to us.

At the end of assembly we went back to class and had our first Victorian activity of the day, this was handwriting using a quill and ink. We were given a copybook which had exercises in them, whilst we were writing our manes on the front of the copybooks we got told to work in silence. By the time people had finished 3 or 4 exercises it was time for recess. At recess we were allowed to talk but no having fun, eat and walk around the field, for only 15minutes. When recess was over Mr Johnston rang the bell and everyone came back into class.

After recess it was time for a bit of Arithmetic, Science, Poetry, History and Geography. In this time we learnt about the potato, where it came from, who brought it to England and where in England the best potatoes come from. We learnt a few poems, a song, the national anthem and our 1x tables. This lesson took a bit of time because lots of people were being sent to the dunce’s corner or being caned.

After that activity it was time for another recess. Again recess was extremely boring and only lasted 15-20minutes. After recess we had a Victorian school lunch, and yes you guessed it, it was Gruel. After having the Gruel it was drill, in drill we had a short warm up then we moved onto marching in a straight line. Like the rest of the day we were not allowed to have fun or talk.

At the end of drill we went back to the classroom and had a chat about the day. We talked about our favourite pats of the day and our worst parts of the day.

My favourite part of the day was definitely learning about the potato as I learnt so much from it, but the worst part of my day certainly had to be eating Gruel.

Adam says term 2 is.....

This term we have done a lot of activities and events such as Myst, Oliver, Penguins and Victorian day. I have had a really good time this past 10-12 weeks. It has been really well planned and organised.

The Myst writing really broadened my use of adjectives and playing the game was fun too. I didn't get very far though! Some of the Myst writing was the best work in Year 6 for some people.

Oliver was great and I really enjoyed rehearsals and watching people perform and audition. Jamal, Chris and Matthew were great. Jamal is better than the real Fagin in the show in my opinion!

I really enjoyed learning about penguins as I didn't know much about them. It was really cool bringing ICT into it to make it more fun and enjoyable too! Sadly I didn't get to finish mine.

Victorian Day was great as the classroom looked detailed and it was a very different experience! I got the Dunces hat 3 times and got screamed at a bit!

This has been a great term. Thank you everyone for a wonderful term!

Rachel Reflects on Term 2

This term was by far my best term yet at Kings Dubai!

Here are my highlights:
March of the penguins photo stories: During ICT week, all of year 6 made a penguin documentary using only pictures on photo story 3. I think mine was a success. I was too embarrassed to show it to all of year 6 so, we just showed it in front of the class. I think there were a lot of really good ones.

Dibba!!!!: On the 9th of February we all went off to North Star adventure camp. It was SO much fun and the best thing we did all year! I was in a cabin with Ashleigh, Angela and Natasha and we had fun staying up late, having sweets and listening to the funky monkeys making noise next door (thank you Lauren!).

Sports day: Shortly after we returned from Dibba we had our sports day. My favourite activity was basketball shooting. I found it annoying when we had to have a drink after our 1st activity. In the end the results of the year 4,5 and 6 sports day were: Windsor 4th, Hanover 3rd, Tudor 2nd and Stuart 1st.

A little Twist of Oliver: After all of the above, we finally started to put 'A little Twist of Oliver' together.the first thing we did was audition in front of our class. This was something everyone had to do. After those auditions we had MORE auditions. We had to sing Consider Yourself in front of year 6. This was optional. When we got our parts we had to rehearse all the time! In the end it all turned out great! I think our best performance was when we performed in front of our parents!

Victorian day: The scariest thing we did all term was definitely Victorian day! We got to experience what it was like to be a Victorian school child. It was very scary at times especially writing, the subject people made most mistakes in! But, in a way, I enjoyed Victorian day!

By far, this term was the best term yet! I can't wait to find out what our new theme is going to be but, one thing I'm notlooking forward to is.......................SATS!

Rachel

Lauren's spring term highlights

My Highlights of the term:

My 3 favourite things of year six (so far!) has been A little Twist of oliver, Dibba, and Victorian day!

I thought our year 6 production was AWSOME because we all worked as a team, we all enjoyed it and we all tried our best to make it a show to remember!

Dibba: dibba was great I had loads of fun while we were in camp. Our cabin (The Funky Monkeys) (Becky, Lucy, Eloise and ME!!) was Green 3. For the 2 nights me and eloise slept head to toe and so did Becky and Lucy.We also had a bed just for sweets. (we went a bit sweet crazy- Trick or Treat!)

My favourite activities were Mountain biking, Rock climbing & absailing, and Kayaking.

My Review on Victorian day:

I thought Vitorian day was fun but scary at the same time! I was suprised at how strict abd frightening Mrs Kenny was! (miss granger!)

Our first activity was writing, we had to start on chalk boards and then we were aloud to go on tho our copy books with ink when the teachers thought we were ready. When I got on to the copy book I started to write Lauren instead of Ethel Martin so I got the dunts hat for making a mistake.:o(

We also did P.E with Mr Roles and sewing with Miss Bates.

I thought it was really mean of the teachers to serve us GRUEL!!!!

So that is my Highlights of the term!

Lauren:o)

Richard's Victorian Day Review

Richard’s Victorian day review

I got to school on Thursday and saw everyone in their costumes. Everyone looked great dressed as a Victorian school child and when we got into the shaded area, we saw a big sign saying “King Georges’ do not enter”. Mr Watson aka Mr Johnson was wearing black robes and an old fashion teaches hat. Then we were told to line up at the gates and wait until we were told to go in. Soon Mr Johnson came and took us into the classroom.

When we got inside the room looked completely different from yesterday. There was a black board with a chalk timetable on it. The windows were covered with black paper and had a drawing of an apple on it and next to that were some sayings.

The first lesson was writing and we all had to get a quill, a copybook and an ink bowl. Then the class had to copy numbers and words with our right hands. It was recess and we weren’t allowed to have fun and all we did was walk around the field. The second lesson was an object lesson and we studied the potato. So far we learned that it was very strict in the Victorian times and boring. All we did was repeat facts over and over again.

Next was arithmic which was maths and we did our 1 timetables and he then asked very easy questions. We then did a bit of poetry and spelling. It was lunch after that and it was pretty much the same as recess. When we walked smartly back and had our lunch that the teachers provided, this was gruel. Some people didn’t eat it because it tasted horrible.

It was time for drill. Drill is like P.E. but instead of doing it for exercise, we did it for obedience. After all this it was home time. The teachers stopped being mean and we talked about What had happened today. Adam was dunce 3 times and Daniel, Jamal and Rory were caned. Kian and I got out to lunch early and were one of the best pupils. I thought that Victorian day was really fun and I’d like to do it again.

Dickens says....

Goodmorning miss and mr

I really liked Victorian day because it was a really great experience. I ennjoyed looking at our classroom which our teachers mr watson and miss bates would be transformmed in to Mr johnson and miss Lawrence. It was funny in assembly when everyone was being shouted at for silly reasons. I remember when dan was pulled inside for smirking and was taken to the girls room for sounding like a girl; HARSH! once we finished assembly we headed to our class rooms and the boys classrooms started on writing with a ink and a old fashion pen. At break we sat with our victorian lunch and we couldn't have fun. The only type of exercise we could do was slowly walk around and around the field.Back in class we were busy learning about the inside of an apple and the potato. One thing we certainly learnt was that Norway isn't in Great Britian.

After second break which was incredibaly similar except we had different food, we did drill. this was taken with mr rolce who was in disguise in his victorian teacher costume.

Funniest time: Zaks Norway remark

Funniest sentance: Dan was sent to the girls room.

Most picked on child: Adam was sent to the dunces corner 3 times.

Thankyou teachers for this great experience.

Devonsish says....

Mr Jonson (aka Watson)

From Josh (aka Peter Devonish)

Victorian day

Victorian day was great fun but it was really hard with Smythe (Adam) getting us in trouble. To start it of we had 2 new very strict teachers with big canes and they were 10 times angrier than Mr Watson and Miss Bates who were away for the day. We had to stand up every time a teacher entered the room and that was hard because Mrs. Kenny entered the room very often and at the end of the day my legs were aching. We all got funny names- mine was Peter Devonish. I learnt how Victorian children did not have the chance to use great tools like the smart board. I learnt a lot about the potato and the apple and we learnt how to march quickly will Mr Rowles drilling us and making us work. Adam made us all laugh and he had to wear the dunces hat 3 times!! Dan was funny when he got dragged to the girls room for giggling and Zac was funny when he said that Norway was a country in Great Britain.

All in all it was fun but I WOULD NEVER GO TO SCHOOL IN THE VICTORIAN TIMES!! One day was ok but more than one, would make me wish I went to school in these times

I really enjoyed it, Josh D

Adam (a.k.a. Smythe) says ....

Victorian Day 27/03/10

Victorian day started off with lining up for assembly where I got sent to the back of line and then got screamed at by Mr.Whitehead!

Then the boys and girls went into seperate classrooms and did different thing. The boys started off with writing to ten. Easy, right? Astonishingly I missed the 5 so my page went 1 2 3 4 6 7 8 9 10! I had to count to 5 ten times and that was really embarrasing. Nothing more could go wrong, the day is only 4 hours and a half. Mr.Watson realised that Mr.Whitehead wanted me to where the Dunce hat! So for 15 minuts I stood in the corner facing the wall with a hat on me. Later we learned about the potatoe and Zac said Norway is part of Great Britain so he got the Dunce hat!

We then learned about apples and I started tossing mine so guess what, I got the Dunce hat again.

We did some marching in P.E then we ate some gruel which was................... not brilliant! I wouldn't be able to live on that everyday!

Victorian day was fun but I never would want to be a Victorian child! The classooms looked great! Thankyou Miss Bates, Mr Watson, Mr Whitehead, Mrs Watson, Mr Rowles and Mrs Kenny.

Emily's news

Hi Everyone,

A few weeks ago on Monday, Tomas and I helped out on a raffle for mistreated maids. The amount of money we helped to raise - 2200Dhs in all - was put to good use...

Mary, the welfare officer at the Consulate, helped us to identify a 47 year old woman named Alempia Tellor who has been living at the Consulate for two months. There are currently over 120 women camped out there who are either trapped by their visa situation or have no money and nowhere else to go.

Alempia fled her job after suffering physical abuse. Now, she has to leave the country THIS WEEK - or else she might get daily fines and even prison time if her former sponsor decides to press charges.

Our 2200 dirhams has bought Alempia a plane ticket back to Manila and she will leave very soon.

The plane ticket cost 1600 dirhams and the remaining 630 dirhams has gone towards phone cards for the many women there who are trying to connect with their family back in the Philippines.

Tankerton says.....

I really enjoyed Victorian Day! Mr Johnson (Mr Watson), Ms Lawrence (Miss Bates) and Mrs Gregory (Mrs Kenny) did a really good job at not laughing in the classroom and making it feel like a real Victorian School day. I'm REALLY glad that I don't live in the Victorian times because I thought that it was REALLY scary. And I felt pretty annoyed when the girls were told the they weren't smart enough to do Arithmetic (Maths) and that they had to learn how to wash clothes and sew (though I did enjoy the sewing!) instead of do Science and other more educational things.

Thank-you Mr Watson, Miss Bates and Mrs Kenny for arranging Victorian Day!

Victorian Day Review - by Charlotte

Victorian Day Review

Thursday March 25th 2010

I really enjoyed Victorian Day and all the many and varied activities.

I especially liked knitting Lavender Purses and the Writing Lesson. It was the first time I had ever knitted a purse and the first time I had ever used an ink pen because of course we use ballpoint pens in today’s modern times.

However I didn’t like being awarded the ‘Dunce’ hat because I was unable to speak the alphabet backwards - it was VERY humiliating but I wasn’t alone in my humiliation as Francesca ended up wearing the ‘Dunce’ hat too!

Surprisingly the house work was fun as we had to get down on all fours and scrub the floors although doing this as a full time job, day in and day out would be very hard work!

Also, whilst it was fun the PE lesson was quite an experience having to march back and forth in a very strict fashion across the gym.

Finally, it was good and quite cool to have a day away from the boys, it was certainly quiet!

All round the activities we participated in helped us to get a really good vibe and feel of what it must have been like to live and work in the Victorian Era.

Olivia's Victorian Day recount!

Review of Victorian Day

I really enjoyed Victorian day, it was a really fun experience! The class rooms were really different and defiantly set a Victorian feel! Both Mr. Watson (Mater Johnson) and Miss. Bates (Miss Lawrence) had amazing costumes and Miss. Bates was very strict and firm…and I am sure Mr. Watson was too!

My favourite part of the day was eating the gruel –though it made me want to throw up I found it really interesting to try it! It tastes like tap water and soil mixed together in sludge, really vile!

My worst part of the day was the P.E. –I wasn’t too fond of the strange marching and stretches! But Mr. Rowles was a very good P.E. teacher for the Victorian times, very strict!

I really enjoyed Victorian day, though I did find it a bit strict (sometimes I would laugh like when Natasha has to say ‘Cleanliness is next to godliness’) ..but I tried to hold my giggles in!

Rachel reflects on the Year 6 Victorian Day

On Thursday, 25th of March year 6 got to experience life as a Victorian school child.

It was awful getting in trouble for very single thing we did.

Boys and Girls had to line up at each side of the gate and we were in separate classrooms.

Miss Bates and Mr. Watson both turned from really nice teachers to horrible teachers!

The first thing we did was get our Victorian names. Mine was Myrtle Derham.

We went over to assembly and by the time we got there we had missed about half of it!

We were always being told off for slouching!

When we returned to our classrooms we went to the gym with Mr. Rowles to do drill

Apparently our marching was appalling! We weren't allowed to smile or communicate with other girls.

When we went outside for recess we had to sit at separate benches to the boys. After we had finished our snack we had to walk the perimeter of the field.

After recess we did writing. We all started off on slates and then if we were good enough we could go onto pen and ink!

When I finally got onto pen and ink I started to write my real name. I was half way through writing it when I realised I was writing the wrong name!

I slowly raised my hand and I told Miss Lorence that I made a mistake and she sent me to the corner with the Dunce hat placed on my head.

After I got out of the corner and I was put back onto a slate.

When writing was over we had a hand inspection. Most of us were sent to the bathroom to wash our hands.

Then we started to sew. I never sewed before so my sewing was the worst!

Miss Lorence didn't explain how to sew very well. She told us she wasn't in school to help, she was in school to instruct.

After recess we carried on with our sewing.

Overall, I kind of enjoyed Victorian day.

Tomas' Victorian day review

Dear Mr Watson, (aka Mr Jonson or Sir)

Here is my review of the Victorian Day.

Could you please put it on the blog....

Thank you Sir,

Tomas

On the 25th of March, year 6 had to experience a day in the life of a Victorian Child.

Trust me, I would never like to live their for more than a day.

I quite liked Victorian Day because I found out a lot of information as I was involved with it. I learned how much pressure was put on the children when the teacher asked them a question. I sometimes found it hard not to laugh. (for example, when "Mr Jonson" told Dylan about the black sheep)

I really liked the fact that we learned our 1 times table because I actually learned something that is quite hard to learn in year 6 because they expect you to know them by then. I also found it quite fun when we were learning about the apple because that was one of the most important things that I learned today. I also liked "recess" because I was waiting all day to be able to eat. (I actually enjoyed my food). I also enjoyed watching Adam B (aka Smyth) getting told off every second.

I didn't really like the lining up after "recess" because we had to stand up straight without smiling, laughing or grinning. I also didn't like sitting up straight every single part of the day because I had a really sore back. I also didn't like standing up whenever someone entered to room because it involved getting up and sitting down again very often which I would never be able to do in the Victorian times because Mrs Kenney comes into the classroom a lot so that would mean getting up and down very often.

All this comes to a conclusion; I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO LIVE MY LIFE IN A VICTORIAN SCHOOL!!!

Worthington recounts!

Scary, excitng and funny (BOY WHAT IS SO FUNNY ABOUT VICTORIAN DAY)

I enjoyed victorian day because it was very realistic and because the teachers did a good job with thier acting. The worst bit of victorian day was watching my friends get caned not knowing they had a book down their trousers ;D

I thought 2 things where funny on victorian day when Zac said that potatoes came from Norway and when Dan got shouted at by Mr. Whitehead.

Oliver Review - by Felix

I rushed into school fear that I was late and quickly got dressed and joined my other classmates as we walked to Mrs. Merrigan's classroom and got ready to got in and sing food glorius food. Dylan did his line and we all marched in in time to the bass drum beat, we then sang food glorius food, got a applause and got into our tables. We then performed the rest of our play to the parents of year 6 and a couple of brothers and sisters. At the end Mrs. Watson said a couple of words and we were asked to sing the end of oompapa again. We then came off the stage and celebrated all the way to the calss room, got changed and went home.

Felix Reviews Macbeth

We came in to the theatre at DUCTAC and took our seats excitedly. The reason for this was because this play happened to have one of our classmates performing in it, Jamal.

My favorite charcter in the play was of course Jamal because I think he did his part really well incuding dieing. I also thought the doorman was good because he was really funny my favorite part was when he fell off the stage.

Richard's Reviews

Richard’s Oliver review

When I came back to school at 5:30 I was really nervous. When we walked into the hall it was hard not to smile when the parents were there. Food glorious food was excellent and no one make mistakes. It was the best show so far and everyone put their heart in. My favourite song was pick a pocket or two and Jamal brought it to life. We were all enjoying it and I had a fantastic time.

Richard’s Macbeth review

We got on the bus and it felt like a fighter pilot’s seat because the seat belt went over both shoulders. I was excited when the curtains opened and the three witches started to dance. I understood the storyline and they were good actors. My favourite actor was the porter with the keys who was funny and made me laugh. It was cool when Jamal walked across the stage and later on spoke some lines. The main character was good at singing and had to learn lots of lines. Overall I enjoyed it a lot.

Reviews of Oliver and Macbeth by Eloise

OLIVER

Oliver was GREAT! It was AWESOME! It was GLORIOUS! It went so well, and so well planned. It was magnifico!
We all sang great and no one forgot any of their lines!! We had a very nice and big crowd, who were all buzzing with excitement afterwards! Our acting was so impressive that were all like actors and actresses at the ready! I bet you, no one wasn't smiling after we went home that night!! Miss Bates, Mr Watson, Mrs Kenny and Mrs Anderson were the fantastic directors! It was a AMAZING show to always keep in your memory!...

MACBETH

FANTASTICAL ...MENACING ... CACKLING ... INTIMIDATING ... THRILLING...

....Were all True! Macbeth was flabbergasting! It was a real inspiration! Especially because JAMAL OLLIER was in it! It was all quite scary and I was always on the edge of my seat! I really liked the Evil song that McDuffs fellow mate sang! Also I liked the gate guy who told us all the funny jokes! It had a nice flow all the way through and was easy enough to understand, although I wouldn't consider taking a group of year 1's! There were some funny and some scary moments like those witches and their scary dances, but it was an outstanding show!!

Macbeth by Chris

Homework-MacBeth

I thought Macbeth was brilliant. I’ve read the book but I remember finding it hard to understand. I knew what was going on, but sometimes it was a bit hard to understand. It had a really good mix of action, mystery and humour. I couldn’t stop giggling at the door keeper! I found it really dramatic when MacBeth panicked and picked up his pace in talking speed and when his fits were over he would start panting and taking deep breaths. I thought Jamal was brilliant especially when he got stabbed.

By Chris Greaves

Macbeth by Sami

I thought Macbeth was good because the acting was amazing.
I liked the story of Macbeth;it was really interesting and very active. The witches at times were very funny and very unpredictable a lot of the time.I found the Sean funny when the man was trying to learn how to use the sword.I also thought that the tap dancing was very amusing and interesting. I think Macbeth is a very talented man and quite wise man, that knows what he is doing a lot of the time. The songs were also quite interesting and unpredictable too.I did not expect the show to be on over a long time .I thought Jamal was amazing and good at acting.

A Review of Macbeth by Lauren

MACBETH!
On Thursday 18th March Year 5&6 went to see the murderous Macbeth and we all thoroughly enjoyed it!
I sat with Becky, Eloise and Lucy.My favourite character was the Bald guy he was hilarious! But the real star of the show was our very own year 6 pupil JAMAL! I think Jamal was great! Also the songs that they sung was really good! The weird sisters was really... WEIRD! (Great is what I meant to say!)

This was a really AWESOME show and I want to see it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lauren :o)

Josh D's Macbeth Review

My review of Macbeth
Macbeth was great I really enjoyed it and I am sure that everybody enjoyed it as well. I found there were lots of morals in the story like:
• You should not be greedy it gets you nowhere
• Friendship helps you- always have plenty of friends
• Times have changed- in those times you would kill for power

The Performance
I found that the performance always surprised you, the story had great singing, great acting, Jamal was excellent at his part and that the costumes and stage props worked really well with the atmosphere.

I really liked it when Jamal acted and I also liked the funny joker who answered the door.

All in all it was a great show and I recommend others to see it but it is too gruesome for children under 9 years old.

A Little Twist of Oliver - Hazel's Review

A little twist of Oliver Review

Our Oliver production was amazing. After loads of rehearsals and hard work, we got to show off our drama skills to the whole school, and our families! It began with a sad workhouse scene. With everyone staring at you, it was hard not to smile! Our openeing song of Food Glorious Food really set the standard.

Oliver was amazing - Matthew really did sound like him!
Dodger had the same cheeky, happy spirit as in the musical. Great Chris!
Nancy really blasted the roof off the pub with the grand finale Oom Pa Pa!!
Fagin was brilliant with that sinister touch. The "thumbs" part in Pick a pocket or two really brought it to life!
But of course, without EVERY SINGLE PERSON we couldn't of done it. Another massive well done!

My Macbeth Review - By Olivia

Macbeth Review

The day had arrived. We were all going to see macbeth!( starring Jamal as Macduff son.) After the bus ride we had to rush through Mall of the Emirates before we missed the start of the show! Luckily we made it in time. The show started. The spirits were the opening act. The story line was:

Macbeth was first made Thain. He sent a letter home to his wife to tell her about it, and she became greedy. She made Macbeth kill the King of Scotland so he could become King. Macbeth could not live with the guilt, and he feared his friend Bankwell suspected him, so he killed him too. Macduff fled to England to avoid being killed, and while he was gone his children and his wife were killed. Macduff led war against Macbeth and killed him. Then war was over and Scotland was a peaceful once more.

I really enjoyed Macbeth. I think the funny guy, Pigslaw, was my favourite. A huge well done to Jamal, he was amazing!

Hazel

Dan raves over Macbeth

I thought macbeth was excellent Jamal was superb the singing was super the acting was super whats not to like I had great fun when it finished I'm like noooo carry on if I saw it a million times I wouldn't get bored.

SUPER!

Rory reflects on Macbeth

Macbeth

I really enjoyed Macbeth. I thought the way that the
stoty line had been re written was great and I also
thought the Music and songs were good.

My favorite actors were the three witches, Jamal
and Macbeth. I think Jamal should quit school and
go to acting collage sometimes he is so good.

My favororite scene was when Macbeth had
just murdered the king and he looked REALLY guilty.
I think he would have confessed , if it wearnt for his
evil ,moneyseeking wife!

Emily review Macbeth

On Thursday, Year 5 and 6 went to see Macbeth at DUCTAC.

I enjoyed it very much! My favourite characters were the witches. I thought they had really cool songs. I'm not really sure what my favourite part was because I really enjoyed all of it!

It was really good to see the show of Macbeth instead of reading the original book (I read the children's version!) because the book is written in very old English and is very complicated.

From Emily

Paul enjoys Macbeth

I really enjoyed the whole experience of seeing Macbeth on Thursday. This was the first stage ‘play’ I have seen, I have only seen musicals before. The show was amazing. I liked all the sets and the actors were really good. There were some funny parts that we all loved and had a good laugh. I liked the ‘knock-knock’ jokes a lot. The story was quite easy to follow and the actors made it so interesting.

By Paul

Tomas reflects on Macbeth

One Thursday of the second term, year 5 and year 6 went to the Ductac to see the theatre show of Macbeth. We were all very excited to see Jamal. (a boy in my class who is taking part in the show) But when we started watching it, I changed my opinion......

I didn't really enjoy the show because I found the show too dramatic like when Jamal (who played the Son Of Macduff) died. I have never really enjoyed watching old history things because I find them a bit boring as I am used to watching modern things.

On the other hand, I really enjoyed the scene when the door man sang his funny songs and made his funny jokes. I thought that that scene was the best.

I was very excited to see Jamal's part because I knew that he did amazingly for the Oliver show so I knew that he would do as well for the Macbeth show. I also thought that he had a voice, filled with a lot of expression and I was very surprised that he did not put on an embarrassed smile because I would because I would find it quite scary looking at all my friends while trying to concentrate on the show.

Overall it was a fun experience because I was able to go out of school to do something out of school which I really liked. But that still didn't change my mind of me actually liking the content of the show

Francesa's review of Macbeth

‘Macbeth’ 4 kids

I really enjoyed the Macbeth 4 kids. I understood it a bit in the begging but, I was getting a bit confused towards the end. It was so much fun with all my friends and I think we all enjoyed it so much. I thought that Jamal was really good and I think he is an outstanding performer. The show was such a menacing, betraying and murderous show it was just so confusing. I think the actors were so serious and intimidating towards the other actors.

A Little Twist of Oliver - Francesca's review

‘A little Twist of Oliver’

I really enjoyed the production and I thought that everyone did so well. I never thought that all those people that got up and did a solo could do that, they were fantastic and just put there all into it and did so well. I enjoyed all the songs and the scenes were so good. Everyone’s acting was outstanding and I thought that we had just pushed those expectations to a higher level. I think that the teachers were really supportive and very helpful.

Molly on Macbeth

I LOVED MACBETH!
I found it sooo funny when that guy came in and asked
us all those funny jokes, and told us what happens
when you have had a couple of drinks! ;)

It was about medieval Scotland and about
a person called Macbeth.
I found it very interesting and educational
about medieval Scotland.
Hope you enjoyed Macbeth too!

I would like to thank Mr Watson, Miss Bates, Mrs Kenny and Mrs Anderson

So thank you teachers! ;-)

Everyone remembered their lines and where they stood on the stage,
so that made the show AWESOME!!! :0)

Macbeth - Dylan's review

I really enjoyed going to see Macbeth and I thought it was a very good act. I really enjoyed seeing Jamal come on and I thought he played his part really well. I thought it was a mysterious show full of mysteries and was very gripping. If I had to pick the best child actor I would pick Jamal because not only was he brave to act with a lot of experienced adults and he played his part like a sweet an innocent boy, unfortunately getting killed. If I had to pick a great adult actor I would pick the actor of Macbeth's wife because she had a very loud and clear voice.
I hope i see something nearly as good as this again

A Little Twist of Oliver - Josh D's Review

A little Twist of oliver

The show started off we were all marching in.Dylan had just said his line and we were trying to act sad. The song sounded great and we were acting brilliantly.
The show was great and I think everyboady performed very well well done to the main characters like Mattew, Jamal, Chris and Rose. I think we are all really happy with it especially Mr Watson, Mrs Bates, Mrs Kenny and Mrs Anderson. They all did a great job and we hope they liked their gifts.

Rachel reflects on the Year 6 show

On Tuesday the 16th of March we performed a little Twist of Oliver to our parents.
I think it was our best performance. I was really nervous at the start but after food glorious food I felt a little bit more relaxed.
I think Jamal was a really good Fagin and I thought Rose was a brilliant Nancy.
My favourite song was Who Will Buy.
I think everyone did really well!

---
Rachel :D

Tomas reflects on Oliver!

I really felt very enthusiastic before the show because we had done so many rehearsals that I was bursting to sing those songs and act out my part again. My favourite part was when we all sang Oom Paa Paa at the end. Everyone gave it so much spirit and enthusiasm. It sounded amazing because it was so loud.

My favourite song was “Pick-a-pocket or two”, even though I didn’t sing it.

Jamal did his part so well that I honestly think that he is better than the real Fagin because he put a lot more expression that made it sound a lot more professional and evil.

Matthew also did a great job. He was the perfect person for Oliver because he has quite a high-pitched voice, which is very similar to the Oliver in the musical.

Rose also did a great job. Her voice is quite loud, which makes her sound like Nancy from the musical.

Chris was great as well because he can put on an amazing cockney accent that sounds almost identical to the real Dodger. He can also pronounce the words just like the Victorians would.

Overall, the experience was brilliant. I found it quite embarrassing when everyone was clapping and whistling. I usually find it quite hard not to put on an embarrassed smile.

I will never forget that amazing show.

When we were getting ready to line up outside the hall I got really nervous and felt myself shaking!! I was so excited! We were finally going to perform the show to our parents and family friends. Once the music started and we entered the hall the nerves disappeared and the show had begun. I really sang my heart out. It was great to be on stage in front of everyone. Everybody remembered their lines and all the words of the songs. I think we sang the best we have ever sang. I enjoyed doing my solo part, and I had a great time.

I think that the script and songs were very good and that everyone was

The Half Day off school - by Tomas

The Half Day Off School-

It started in the morning, straight after the school break time. Emily and I greeted everyone who came in and we introduced them to the raffle. Most people bought one or more tickets. In the end we sold 98 tickets; each costing 10 dirhams. In total we made 980 dirhams which will all go to the Philippine embassy who have made a charity for mistreated maids. A lot of parents from Kings were there and a lot of them were my mums friends.

I felt very happy as we achieved our goal which was to pass 700 dirhams. I also felt very proud because we had raised all that money for a charity.

Even though we missed all that school I learned a lot about how to invite people to your stand.

Emily and Tomas working for Charity

On Monday, Tomas and I managed a raffle for charity.

Tomas and I at our raffle table ---

The raffle was a sale raising money for mistreated maids. The sale was at Tomas' house and there were lot of mothers from school there, selling and buying. Almost everybody who came did the raffle. Each ticket was 10 dirhams and we sold 98 tickets, which means we got 980 dirhams. Everybody who was selling at the sale also added in a certain percentage from the money that they made selling. Emma Sharif bought 10 tickets. One woman - not anybody from school - bought 4 tickets but only paid for 1 so we had to take out 3 of her tickets, which took 30 dirhams away from the amount of money we made.

Food glorious food - an alternative version!

Food glorious food,
cold olives and broccoli,
while I'm in the mood,
hot pizza and ice lollies.

Raw,
burnt,
or poisonous,
I'm gonna eat it.

food glorious food,
onions and strawberries,
while I'm in the mood,
steak and potato.
Full up feeling.

Rory likes to eat cabbage and fish pie,
then he gulps a chicken with some hot gravy, milk, orange juice and popcorn, thirst is gone!

Adam devours turkeys, raspberries and apples , Tomas gulps pita bread.

Jamal makes some cakes then Richard steals them.

Year 6 has greedy guys, but who cares
Skinny, fat, or medium!
6 pack, 8 pack of bones showing
we all eat lots and lots and lots and lots of lovely food! Full up feeling!

Zac's Oliver character profiles

Artful Dodger
Jack Dawkins or known as the Artful Dodger, is part of a pick-pocketing gang in London and has been bought up by the gang leader called Fagin. He is called the Artful Dodger because of his skillfulness in thievery. He was Oliver's first Proper friend ,finding him hungry and tired on one of the streets of London.

Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist was born and raised hungry with other orphans in an old Work House where they lived and worked that was around 70 miles away from London. Olivers mother died minutes after giving birth to him and left no trace of his father or other family members or friends. Oliver was sold to an old undertaker and his family and then ran away to London.
