Hazel's awesome holiday

My Awsesome Holiday

For our holiday we went to France. We stayed in 3 different houses in different parts of France. Firstly we stayed in a tiny village called Barbentane in Provence, near the Alpes. It was a really nice old town with buildings from as far back as 1305 AD!

One of the main highlights there was going canoeing. We went in a group with a guide to show us where to go. We had to go down a dam (it was like a small waterfall). At one point we stopped for a break and we were allowed to jump in the water and float down some rapids. I had a great time even though it was really cold when you came out of the water! Afterwards we had a picnic and Dominic and I swam across the river to a tree which we climbed up; then we jumped out of it into the river.

Another thing we did was go to see the Tour De France! It was quite a sunny day and we had to get up and leave quickly because the roads closed at 10:00. We found a nice spot to watch from and settled down to have a picnic. About an hour and a half after lunch the caravans came by. They threw out loads of free stuff. I think my favourite thing that we got was probably the Haribo sweets! Not long after the cyclists came by. I saw Lance Armstrong, Alberto Contador, Mark Cavendish, Andy Shleck and loads of others! We also got a water bottle that one of the cyclists threw out.

A few days before we left we went to a place (it had a complicated name in french) where you were attached to a harness and you had to climb over things and go across zipwire in the forest. There was one part where you had to walk across ropes and then jump onto a rope web in midair. Aaaaagh!

On the day we left we drove 10 hours to our cousins house, and slept there for a week. We were celebrating my uncle and aunts 10th Wedding Anniversary. We had a game of petanque, and my aunt cooked a massive feast. Also while we were there we went canoeing again, and went to a lake park. There was an enormous waterslide and I went with my uncle down it. We went so fast that we took off at one of the bumps in the slide and I wacked my head on the edge of the slide. It was so much fun even if I did hurt myself a little bit. There was also pedal-karts and a disc that was tilted and it spun around and you had to stay on it. I fell off loads of times.

After staying with our cousins, we moved into a little villa for a week. while we stayed there we went to a place called MonkeyWorld. You could walk around in the forest and monkeys were everywhere: above your head, by your feet, in front of you, behind you... It was so much fun. One monkey played peekaboo with us behind a tree!

We also went blackberry picking. Dominic and I found a secret entrance between two fir trees to an open area with blackberry bushes the size of trees. The blackberries were about the same size as Mums thumbnail. We called it the Bleckberry Den. Then we drove down to Toulouse and stayed in a hotel there for a night. The next day we went to the airport and flew back to Dubai. I had had a lovely holiday and was looking forward to going back to school.
