My Summer Holiday Report- Going to Aviemore!
My summer holiday was brilliant! I did lots of cool stuff, like going to farms, parks, theme parks and seeing Concorde! However, my favourite part of the summer was going up to Aviemore in the Wild Scottish Highlands!
It was a very long drive to Aviemore, about 2 ½ hours. Nevertheless, we saw some amazing countryside and spectacular views of the mountain ranges. When we got to Aviemore it was a lot different than I expected it to be. It was much livelier and very beautiful than I imagined it. The hotel we were staying in was called The Aviemore Inn and it was lovely. The hotel was in a sort of compound with other hotels and if you were staying in one of the hotels you could use all the other hotel’s facilities.
On the 1st day as soon as we arrived we checked in and went to see our rooms. Our room was massive and the beds were really comfy! After unpacking, we went and tried to find the hotels’ indoor pool. For a little while we had a look round the gift shop, I bought a pack of how you can learn to write creatively. Then we finally found the pool but it was too late to go swimming that night because the pool shut at five o’ clock and it was 4:45 (round about that time) when we found it. After that, we had a go on the play park just outside the hotel and went to the bungee jumping. I did many backflips and bounced really high!
After a well deserved good nights sleep, we got dressed and went down the stairs for breakfast. Breakfast was being served at the highland food court at the Highland resort hotel. I stuffed my face with everything I they had on hot breakfast section. They had bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, baked beans and haggis (haggis is a type of food that the Scots treasure the most). We waited for a little while in our rooms before we got ready to go swimming. When we arrived at the pool, it looked really big and exciting, although it was quite busy for 9:30 in the morning (round about 9:30). There was a water slide that they called The Flume and they closed a little while after we got there because………………….Wait for it……………………Wait for it……………….THEY SWITCHED THE WAVE MACHINE ON! The wave machine made the whole pool turn into an ocean. They even put out some floating spongy things that everyone has to sit, stand or lie on and pretend their surfing!
We dried off and then drove up to Carbridge to go to the adventure theme park called Landmark. Landmark was AWESOME! They had many things to do so we were never bored especially at lunchtime (YUMMY). We went on some of the adventure climbing frame things and then started going to the rides. Chloe (my younger sister) went on the Pinnacle (the climbing wall) while I was waiting in the very long queue for the Skydive. When it was finally my turn, I was bubbling ferociously with excitement. AS I climbed up the around 25-meter telegraph pole I began to get nervous. Eventually I reached the top, stood on the wooden platform, and looked down. It seemed higher from up there than it did from when I was on the ground. Then I stopped looking down and jumped…………………………… When I got to the bottom I was thinking to myself how AWESOME THE SKYDIVE WAS! Then the man working at the Skydive said I got another turn. So up I went again stood on the platform and jumped but the second time it didn’t seem as scary. After the thrill of the Skydive, I was a bit tired but not tired to go on the WATERCOASTER! The queue for the Watercoaster was massive, but it actually moved quite quickly. We were queuing up for the scariest one of all, which was the Falcon. The Falcon was just a vertical drop in a dingy ring. When we finally arrived at the top, Chloe and I waited anxiously for our turn to come. Our turn eventually came and it was beyond awesome.
The thrill of the rides had passed because we were on the nature walks instead. We chose the red squirrel trail because that was the only one we could choose. I know it may seem boring to you lot but actually it was amazing to see the rare red squirrels in the natural habitats. After the nature walk, we went to Micro- World (which would have been a great place to go for our theme micro –organisms). It showed you all types of bacteria and viruses really close up. Soon the day came close to an end because it was getting late and the park was about to close so we headed back to our hotel and got dressed for our dinner at a Bistro in an another hotel. I had one of my favourite dishes of all, Pasta Arabiatta. Arrabiata is a spicy tomato sauce and it could be any pasta you wanted so I had Penne pasta.
We woke up that morning and it was a very wet and miserable day. However, the past 2 days we had been at Aviemore we had been really lucky with the weather. That afternoon we had to pack and check out so after we had done all that our mum took up to the inflatable fun factory in The Highland Resort hotel osprey arena. That was so much fun because there were massive inflatable slides. Chloe and I slid down on our stomachs most of the time!
After we left the hotel, we went up to the Cairngorms (which is a famous Scottish Mountain Range). We travelled up one of the mountains on the Funicular Railway, which was really cool. We saw a couple of ptarmigans on the way up and down the mountain.
I really enjoyed Aviemore and all of my summer holidays and can’t until the next one comes!
