Kings' Year 6 link up with Little Harrowden School (Mr Rees' school)

I'm sure that many of Year 6 who have been at Kings' for a long time will fondly remember Mr Rees.

Mr Rees and I worked together for the almost the first 2 years of Kings' being open, when you guys were in year 1 and 2. Mr Rees taught in year 6 and Year 4 as well as being part of the School Leadership team.

Mr Rees and I have remained friends ever since. (Mr Watson still misses his good banter, staffroom games and his funky bass playing!)

Mr Rees is now a succesful headteacher at Little Harrowdeen, in the UK. Why don;t you find out more about his school by visiting their brilliant website:

http://littleharrowden.nthink.net/

http://www.littleharrowden.northants.sch.uk/

I have shared our blog with Mr Rees and Ms Foo,  Year 6 Teacher. The children of Littel Harrowden will be checking out oiur blog to see what we get up to.

The plan is we will be doing some great collobartive work between the 2 schools once  we have finished SATs. Watch this space for more information.

Book day! 6JW's review by Charlotte and Hazel

Ths is our Book Day Review.

On Book Day we all got up early to get dressed into our fantastic costumes! When we arrived at school we got ready for our parade around the fiield. We all loved Mr McGarry's costume, it was amazing but unexpected! Then we came back into the classroom and introduced our characters, so we could write about them in our stories. Next we had breaktime. Then we continued our stories until Mr Watson arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone gave a big cheer. Then we walked over to assembly where Mr Whitehead read out the whole school book. It had many twists and turns in it as well as loads of magic! Then after lunch we went down to FS2 to have a picnic and read them stories. We can all agree that the FS2's are so so so cute! Then it was hometime and was the end of a brilliant day.

We really enjoyed Book Day!

Becky's Book day

Book Day

Book day was on Thursday the 22nd April. I dressed up as Camacazi from the book 'How to Train your Dragon' by Cressida Cowell (or Astrid from the new film). I chose to be her because I love that series of books and she looks a bit like me. Everyone in my class had amazing costumes like Bellatrix L'strange from Harry Potter, Cat Woman, The Grand High Witch, robbers and loads more! Costumes I thought stood out were Hazel as Cruella De Vil and Daniel as Superwoman because you could tell they put lots of effort into creating the costumes! I enjoyed the activities on book day like the picnic with FS2 and the creative writing. For the picnic I had a small girl called Shantilly and at first she was really quiet and shy but then she went really crazy and funny! I also really enjoyed the disco and had loads of fun! Overall I loved book week and book day (except for the tests)!!

Felix's Easter Holiday

When I got of the plane and got through the airport security I was so excited, I was going back to my old house in England. Me and my family took a taxi to my house and me and my brother jumped out and ran to the front door. My dad came up and let us in with his keys and we went straight into the garden to play.

The thing I liked best about my holiday was going to the Portsmouth dock and going aboard the HMS Victory one of the most famous warships in the world. Inside the Victory it was wide and the ceiling was quite high up my dads head was touching it though. when we got down to the lower decks it was just high enough so I wouldn't bang my head, however my dad hit his head several times and had to go out. we got to see how a cannon works and all the rooms on the ship including the captains quarters.

I also visited my best friend Felix over the holidays and had a brilliant time with him. My Grandma and Grandad came round and stayed for 2 nights.

Then a few nights before we were coming back to Dubai my dad fell down the stairs and sprained his ankle and we had to go to A&E the next morning. We then picked him up a few hours after that and took him home.

The next day I got some news from dad he said that due to the cause of the volcano in Iceland that had erupted we couldn't go home until next Saturday!

And here I am now stuck in England but now the flights have been opened I shall be back in Dubai on Saturday because the ash from the volcano damages planes engines.

Dylan's rugby tour

On wedensday night me and my dad headed off to the airport where we met half of our team ( the others were flying indivuidually ) and we boarded the plane. We received merchindise of our team called the dubai exiles. We received a coat, a hoodie, a polo shirt, a jumper and a bag to put it all in. WHen we arrived in england it was early morning so for the rest of the day we took it easy. On Friday we went off to do paintballing with our team. Kids versous dads. The dads did win and yes we got thrashed but we put a good fight against them. My Dad got shot in the butt, the knee, and on the neck twice. I got shot twice in the knee, in the arm and on the eye protecter mask so then i couldnt see. After that was our practice match. We got warmed up and played a team called the bedford blues, which is one of the better teams in torquay. We ended up winning 3-0.

The next day was our tornamount day. Me and my dad went to get some new rugby boots, before i had football ones and we went off to the rugby club. Our first match was against a team called monmourth and we beat them 9-1. These were 10 minute halves and i didnt come off once. Then the next game was against a team called sidcup.we lost 1-0 after a mistake from the referee. our next game was against a team i don not know the name off but we still beat them 7-1.

That was the end of our first day of the tornamount. We went to get some fish and chips then the next day we went back to the same place and had our next match. This was an important match because whoever won went in to the semis. We won 1-0. the next match was a semi final against topsham. The best team in the league and in the whole of Devon. We played and lost 3-1 but the ref was a bad one and made the wrong choices. we had one game which was against sidcup again to see who came 3rd and 4th. We drawed 1-1.

Now we got a holiday we never expected because of the volcanic ash. me and my dad went into windsor to meet my auntie and uncle and we wandered around the streets and met them for dinner. The next day we wnet to london. We went on a big bus tour and saw loads of things like the big ben, houses of parliment, st pauls cathedral, london eye, buckingham palace and the great tower of london. We stopped at the london dungeans and we went in. It was quite spooky because things jumped out at you. It went pitch black alot aswell. There was also a ride where you sat in seats and you went up and up untill u saw ropes and an executioner. he pulled back a leaver and u went dropping down.

My two scariest things were the thing about sweeny todd where he was a hair dresser and he cut your hear and when he finished he slit your throat. What happend was it went pitch black and then you suddenly felt something snip your hear and something on your neck. Luckily when the lights came onhe wasnt there. The next one was about jack the ripper and you heard about his deaths and his throte slashing and his body tearing and then it went dark and the lights went on and the barman was still there. the next thing that happened was it went pitch black and suddenly the lights went on and the barman was gone and jack tje ripper was standing there with a knife then the lights went on and off again and he dissapeared.

After that we were hungry and we went to get some lunch. We then caught the under ground to maddame toussaudes and what it was were clay models of famous people and i got a photo of me with wayne rooney, steven gerrard and david beckham ( who are all famous england footballers ) one with the terminator and jonah lomu ( a famous new zealand rugby player )

That was the end of my trip and i hope i get to go there soon

Holiday Recount by Chris

I had an amazing time in Australia. I went there on my own for 10 days to see the Weights (Tom was in my class in year five). We travelled all over the south-west and to Perth; I found 3 snakes and a huntsman spider. We went to an arts festival in Denmark (not the country in Europe) where they did all sorts of things from monologues and poetry to acting and dancing. We also visited Kates’ sister, Joey, and stayed at their house for a night. We went to 2 different farms owned by Kates brother, Mike..

The first one we went to was 1000 acres. We built huts out of branches and twigs in a small forest they called Pollen Land. We had a walk around the farm. There were some great views from up there. Then at the bottom of the hill was a forest which looked like a miniature version of Fangorn forest in lord of the rings. It was really muddy and the trees were dusty and hung over. There were streams separating the forest. The trees were paper bark trees. Their bark was bendy and scrunchy like paper. The Aboriginals used the

Trees bark as paper.
The next farm we went to was further away from the coast. There was no water there underground so the 6000 acre farm was run entirely on rain water. Every winter of summer here the rain would fall into open tanks and was pumped around the farm.

They had huts there in the forest as well but these were made of metal. I drove a motorbike and a quad bike round the farm. In every 2 or so paddocks there would be a dam. It was a pit in the ground which rain water fell into and feed the cattle. In the closest

One they had yabbies. Yabbies are like small fresh-water lobsters. We ate them and they were delicious. I had a ride on a horse. They had six. Most of them were cheeky and tried to run away or throw you off, so I went on the friendly giant. Her name was freckles. She’s 19 and can’t trot because of an injury in a polo match. But it was still fun.

Tom, Sam and I went up in Mikes private 6 seated, propelled plane. The views were fantastic! I went for a drive in one of the tractors and found a massive 8 wheeled tractor in a nearby shed. On the way back to the airport we stopped to take a look at the combine-harvester. Apart from cutting myself, falling over rocks, being crushed by massive waves and being bitten to death by giant mosquitoes, I had a fantastic time and

I would like to go again.

Review of Term 2 by Serena

My Highlight's:
A Little Twist Of Oliver Prodution:

Doing Oliver was great! It all started off with all of us auditioning in front of the class. Then in you wanted a main part you had to audition in front of the whole year 6, Miss Bates, Mr and Mrs Watson and Mrs Anderson.Nearly everyone did it except me and Rachel! After Miss Bates and Mr Watson had some desions to make who will get the main parts?

When they had told us it was time to get the songs and make the scripts! And the next thing you know it we are doing it in front of the crowed! I think the best part was doing it in front of the year 5's.
March of the Penguins:

When it was ICT week Mr Wood came into year 6 to teach us how to use Photo Story. When we had learn't what we need to know we started making a Photo Story. When we had finished making it we had showed it in front of year 6 it was really embarrassing when mine came on !
Victorian Day:

Victorian day was great! All the teachers & children dressed up plus I never knew their life in school was so hard !
I think the best part of the day was pretending to be a Victorian School child.
I hated eating GRUEL!!
I loved this term and I can't wait until next term but I am dreading the .............................................................................................................
SATS :(
Thanks Miss Bates, Mrs Kenny and Mr Watson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Serena :o)

Review of Term 2 by Lucy

I've really enjoyed term 2 of year 6 and I'm really looking forward to next term, the only things I'm not looking forward to is the SATS and LEAVING!!!!!
My favourite things about this term is Victorian day, A Little Twist of Oliver and DIBBA!!!!
I think Victorian day was a fun experience but I wouldn't like to be a Victorian child! I think the funniest moment was when Dan was sent into the girls room for giggling too much! The scariest moment for me was getting told off by Mr Whitehead for not eating the disgusting, tummy churning WATERY PORRIDGE!!! Yuck!!!
I really enjoyed doing our performance of A Little Twist of Oliver! I think Chris and Jamal did exceptionally well but I think everyone did really well!!
Dibba was a very fun experience!! My favourite activities were the archery and the mountain biking. I was quite nervous at first but I gained my confidence and I really enjoyed speeding round the track and bumping over the hills!!!

I can't wait for more fun next term!!!!!!

Review of term 2 by Aliazky

This is Alizaky and this is my highlights of Term 2.
Dibba : It was really exciting going on my first residential trip in Year 6 with the whole year group coming. I learnt loths of things about kayaking, mountain biking , GPS, archery and rock climbing.

Sports Day: We all did a great job in our Yr 5-6 Sports Day in February. Most people did very well in their races and got a Bronze,Silver or Gold Certificate. The standing were Windsor 4th, Hanover 3rd, Tudor 2nd and Stuart 1st but Windsor won the overall standing and defended their cup for the third year in a row.

A Little Twist of Oliver: All of Year 6 did three great performances in front of the school and families. Before that almost every single child in Year 6 auditioned.People Like Chris , Matthew , Jamal and Rose stood out in their main roles.

Victorian day: Everyone wore all fancy outfits and dresses for Victorian Day. It was hard acting like a Victorian child for 4 hours and not smiling. Lots of people did funny and silly things like Dan laughing like a girl ,Zac thinking Norway was in Great Britain and Oisin and Dylan imitating black sheep noises. I would never want to be a Victorian child!!!!!!!!

Term 2 Highlights - By Oisin

I have had many highlights this term, my favourite probably being Dibba.

It was early February and we were all in Dibba. I felt it was a great chance for me to try lots of new things as well as see the other side of my peers, the out of school side.

In Dibba I learnt how to: use a GPS, do archery, mountain bike, overcome fears, look after myself and most of all have loads of fun! My favourite bit was all of it, especially mountain biking and free time. The hardest bit was probably thinking about what to do when I was hanging in the rock climbing relay ;) The conclusion I came to was to untie myself and jump… but it worked because we won and because I am still alive.

I would love to have stayed longer in Dibba. Thank you Mr. Watson, Miss Bates, Mrs. Kenny and Mrs. Birchill for making it so fun.

Oisin

Charlotte's iFly

Over the summer holidays my dad and I reserved a spot at iFLY at Mirdiff City Center. It was totally rad!

When we got there we had to watch a Video of instructions then we could get geared up!

We went to the station for our equiptment, Goggles, Ear-plugs, Special suit and a helmet.

After all that we went into the chamber, it was pressurised so it made my ears pop! The wind was at about

85 MPH. We found out that it could go higher than 200MPH! Finally, it was my turn. When I entered the chamber it was cold,

I had to jump into the instructors arms and curl my hands up so I don't go flying to the top. In seconds I was floating in the air with my instructor

next to me. It was such an experiance!

I really enjoyed it and I would gladly do it again!

Josh P reviews 'Alice in Wonderland!'

My film review of Alice in Wonderland in 3D

Since Alice was a little girl she had the same dream every night. She was going to a party one day, she saw a rabbit. So she decided to follow the rabbit. She had fall in to a hole when she landed she tried every door in the room. Then she looked behind a curtain she found a small door, then she found the key for the door. She went to the table and she found a bottle that said drink me. She drank the drink. She growing smaller and forgot about the key, she found a piece of cake that said eat me. So she eat the piece of cake and grew bigger, then she held the key in her hand, she drank the drink and she became smaller she went to the door and she put the key in the door and she pushed it open and she went in. She met Mad Hatter and his friends at a tea party.

When the soldiers came Hatter put Alice in a tea pot. Hatter and Alice walked to a river Hatter put Alice on this hat and flew Alice arose the river, Hatter got captured by the red queens army. The next morning the dog had found Alice under Hatter’s hat. Alice told the dog to take her to the red queen castle. Alice asked the dog to through the hat in to the red queen’s garden. Alice climbed in to the red queen’s garden. The queen was playing gulf, she used a flamingo as her bat and a hedgehog as her ball, Alice set the hedge hog free. The red queen found Alice and gave Alice some clothes and took Alice inside the castle.

Alice looked for the 4th sword, the rabbit knew where it was it was in with the beast. Alice went inside and took the key from the beast. Alice opened the chest and took the sword. She went back inside the castle and the prince noticed that the girl was Alice. The red queen’s army was surrounding Alice, the beast smashed though the door. Alice jumped on the beast and went to the white queen’s castle. The white queen made juice that made Alice back to her normal size. There was a fight against Alice and a dragon. When Hatter stabbed the dragon’s tail, everyone started to fight.

In the end Alice chopped the dragon’s head off. A cat took the red queen’s crown and gave it to the white queen. Hatter did his dance. In the end Alice went back to the party.

Rory's Bahrain Trip

Rory's trip to bahrain

Over the easter holiday we went back to barhain where I was born. We

went with some friends whose children were also born there.

We went to lots of places such as the souk ( Bahrain market), Bab

al-Bahrain( Bahrain gate), the pottery market ( were we made our own

pottery), Yateem gardens ( which is where we used to live), Arrad and the

Portugese forts and we also went on a hash. ( which is a running club my

parents used to go on).

We saw lots of old friends, some of who had lived in Bahrain for 15 years

or more. We had a really good holiday and I hope to go again some time.

Corynn's Holiday news

For the Easter holidays, my family and I went to Phuket, which is in Thailand. We stayed in hotel called Andaman

Here are the activities we did: Jet Skiing

Took a boat to Phi Phi Island and went Snorkeling

Kayaking

Elephant Trekking in the forest

Horse Riding (along the beach)

My Dad and I went Jet Skiing, it was so much fun. The waves were huge, and water was spraying everywhere. It was a great and I really enjoyed it.

My family and I took a boat to Phi Phi Island. It's were you can go Snorkeling and eat, it was great. It took a while to get there, but I think it was

worth it.

We also went Horse Riding along the beach, which was fantastic! We had to walk down with our horses, and then we got to do anything we wanted to for

45 minutes. My mum, my sister and I went cantering along, dodging dogs and people.

We went Kayaking down a river, and enjoyed the scenery. There were huge cliffs next to us, they were so high, there were also caves. We saw lots of

birds soaring above us.

On our last day, we wnt Elephant Trekking, it was absoloutely brilliant! My dad and I were on an Elephant called Pu-ki, he was very greedy and kept ripping

off the branches to eat. We went Trekking in the forest, there were alot of hills. We saw mnkeys swinging in the trees beside us, they were really cute.

I had an amazing time in Thailand and would love to go again. I also think that some of you should go, there is so much to do and it is great fun.

Stuck in the UK - Mr Watson's update

Morning Year 6!

Travel Chaos! Volcanic eruptions! Mr Watson late for school!

Sorry I am not there to be with you to start the term together. As you know there is travel chaos in the UK and Europe in general because of the volcanic eruptions in Iceland. My flight on Thursday was cancelled and we are still grounded now. I have 2 flights booked this week and hopefully the ash will settle soon and we can all get to where we want to go. Fingers crossed. Who could have guessed that this would have happened?

I hope you all well and have had a great Easter Break.  I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Best wishes
Mr Watson

Richard’s highlights this term

A little Twist of Oliver

A little Twist of Oliver is One of my highlights because everyone tried their best, sang their heart out and spoke clearly. I the beginning, Lauren set the tone and everyone continued acting their part. I really liked it and I wish we could do it again.

Dibba

I was really excited when we got off the bus and saw the North Star camp. I shared a cabin with Adam, Josh D and Dylan. In our spare time we played football or volleyball. Some of the activities were mountain biking, rock climbing, archery and kayaking. I really wish we could have had another night at Dibba.

March of the penguins

When Mr Wood told us we were going to do a photo story on penguins I was excited. We all chose photos and Mr Wood showed us how to do transitions and how to get rid of black borders. When we all finished a week later we all watched each other’s and voted. Everyone’s was good and my favourite was Jamal.

Dylan thinks about term 2

I have really enjoyed ths term and I think it has been the best so far.

I have sooo many things i have enjoyed and to be honest i can't pick my favourite.

Though I can list them all.

Myst: Myst was a really fun topic and it really boosted our writing abilities. We learnt how to use effective language, e.g similies. Adjectives and many other great skills. We even got a chance to play the game that inspired us to write. We spent about 1 week altogether writing and producing our final piece and now we have 3 books. 6JW's 6LB's and a whole school one which is currently in the library. I think in the end we have all came out with our finest pieces of writing yet and it will be tough to set our standerds that high again

March of the penguins: This was another really good topic because we go to discover a lot of information about penguins and it was really fun to watch the movie. we watched several informative documentaries about penguins and then we got to design our very own short trailor. We made our own paintings which were really good and after we had gathered all our knowledge we transfered it on to a presentation sheet

A little twist of Oliver: This was a great show which was well shown and practiced. After a 2 and a bit weeks of practise we finally managed to pull a great show off with all our lines proffesionally. I was pleased with my part and i thought as a year group we all did really well.

Dibba: Dibba was really fun because it was a good way to spend some time with people you might not normally spend with. I am in the Tudor house but i still got to see my other friends from the other houses as well. The meals were really nice in dibba and the activities were really good as well. I really enjoyed mountain biking because it was really good to jump on the slopes and ride in the open wadi. I also liked the other activities aswell.

All and all this has been a great term and i have made some great friends!
I hope next term is just as much fun.

Thankyou for a great term

Hazel looks back on term 2 in 6JW

My Term 2 Review

This term has been packed full of really exciting things, including:

Myst: Myst was amazing. We all did descriptive work of the highest quality, and pushed beyond our usual standard. We also played a bit of the computer game, although that was quite tricky!!

March of the penguins: In March of the Penguins we watched some breathtaking documentaries about Antarctica and the Emperor Penguins. Then we each made our own small advert/clips about penguins, and made our own abstract paintings of small, detailed parts. We also wrote up small, informative text to go along with it.

Dibba: We all went on a school trip to Dibba, where we experienced different activities such as mountainbiking and rockclimbing. It Rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oliver: Year 6 put on an amzing Kings-style version on the Victorian Classic Oliver Twist!! After loads of practicing we showed off our skills in the final performances. Starring Matthew as Oliver, Chris as the Artful Dodger, Jamal as Fagin and Rose as Nancy!

Victorian Day: To top it off, children and teachers all dressed up and acted as Victorians. Boys are smarter than girlss. We must not talk. That was what it was like in the Victorian days!

This has been a great term.

James D on term 2 in Year 6

Spring Term

This term was awesome with all the busy things weve been doing.

Everyone has been working really hard at lots of things like Myst, The Victorians, Oliver, March of the penguins, Dibba, sports day, swim gala.

Everything has been really exciting and hard work.
Myst was really cool in an unusual world. We played the game and wrote about it and everyone produced a brilliant peace of work and it all fitted in to our book.

My favourite thing was learning about the Victorians, writing and drawing pictures, it was lots of hard work and effort put into it and i enjoyed learning everything about it. There was some really interesting facts about the victorians.

Oliver was one of my favourite school plays i have done ever! I really enjoyed it, I was quite nervous at the start but then we did it so many times it got really fun and had lots of confidence.

Penguins are so cute and I loved watching lots of DVDs about them, we also painted some wonderful pictures of penguins along with a peice of writing.
Dibba was one of the best times of my life, with lots of outdoor activitys. I had lots of fun with all my friends.

Sports day and the swim gala were the loudest times ive shouted and screamed ever, chearing and supporting my team, but everyone together it was unbearable!

Thankyou Mr Watson, Miss Bates, Mrs Kenny and Mrs Putt for helping us all with our hard work and being excelent teachers!

Charlotte's Dad big fight

This is my dad fighting his opponent on 'Fight Night V.' Kushaan 'The Pitbull' Senaratne. Alll the boxers had to have nicknames, my dads was 'The Daddy'. Because of two reasons: 1, he is a dad of me and my sister and 2, he is the oldest boxer on the team and through out the squad. He won his fight due to his number of upper cups, left hooks, right hooks and jabs. As you all know he got a BIG trophy! Here is just an awesome picture of him defeting his opponent!

Term 2 by Corynn

This term has been the best ever! We have done such great things that I will tell you about.

Dibba: On Tuesday 9th February, year 6 went to Dibba. We got involved in so many different activities like:

Mountain Biking (My Favourite)

Night Walk

Kayaking

GPS Navigation

Talent Show

Rock Climbing

Abseiling (SCARY!)

Archery (COOL!)

All the activities were so much fun and I hope to go to Dibba again in Secondary School.

March of the Penguins: In school, we learnt all about Emperor Penguins and watched March of the Penguins. We used Photostory and made a Penguin video with facts and info.We also did powder paintings and presentations on the penguins.

Myst: Year 6 discovered this Myst lll Exile game, and all wrote a descriptive page of the scenery in the game. Once they were finished, we put them together and made a book. The book is now in the Library available for anyone to read.

Oliver: Year 6 put on a show called: A Little Twist of Oliver, we all had a speaking line and even some people had a solo. We performed to the school on Monday morning and then to the parents on the Tuesday evening. It was absoloutely brilliant and I enjoyed it soooooooooooooooooooo much.

Macbeth: After the Oliver show, the teachers thought we had been working soooooooooooo hard, they decided to take us to the Macbeth show. It was super, and I am sure everyone enjoyed it. My favourite character was the door answerer ( AKA the funny guy!). He entertained the audience, and told great jokes!

Victorian Day: On Thursday 27th March, year 6 experianced the life of victorian children. We learned what they did, and even had some P.T Drills. Dan probably got caned the most, he even had to come into the girs room!

Term 2 has been great, I have loved it. We have learned such grest things and have been on fantastic trips.

James D reflects on Vicotrian Day

Victorian Day Review

Victorian day was held in Year 6 King Georges School at 7:45am, Thursday 25th of March.

Year 6 all lined up at the gates, the boys and girls were separated in different classes and already the teachers were shouting. Mr Johnson (Mr Watson) with Miss Lawrence (Miss Bates) lead us into the classrooms. The classrooms were black and dull with a chalk board and even a DUNCE hat. We stood behind our desks immediately and sang the national anthem ‘’God Save the Queen’’, then set off to assembly not being able to talk to anyone but people were giggling and smirking as this was a different experience to what they were used to.

After assembly we went back to the classroom, at the back of the class was my seat with Josh D. We did lots of lessons like simple maths, spelling, poems, and writing with quiffs. At break we had our snack quietly, we were not allowed to run and play on the field; we were only allowed to walk round it. It was time to go back inside to the miserable classrooms. There were more lessons and some people got caned these were Jamal, Adam O, and Rory it was very funny but to have that happen to you in (real) Victorian times was really scary. Adam b and Daniel were in the dunce corner a few times facing the wall, I felt sorry for them but at the same time it was hilarious! It was sad that in Victorian times children weren’t even allowed to smile.

Then finally there was lunch and we repeated the same thing as break we ate and then walked. I felt bored just walking around an empty field. It was actually no exercise. We came back inside and we had a special treat...

‘’GRUEL!’’We said our prayers and tried to force down this sloppy horrible porridge.

After there was P.E which in our tight clothes which made us very hot, but was some simple marching and throwing balls around and skipping with rope. It was the end of the day and everyone was relieved it was over! It had been such a busy, but vile Victorian day!

I wouldn’t really have liked to live in the Victorian times, I feel really sorry for the Children getting caned for tripping over or something like that. I’m just glad I wasn’t one of them.

Olivia Reflects on Term 2!

My Highlights of this term

I have really enjoyed this term! Everything has been great, my highlights for this term are:

Victorian Day

I thought Victorian day was great! I really enjoyed the experience of being a Victorian child and having a Victorian classroom and doing Victorian subjects, like sewing and eating gruel-though it didn’t taste nice it was still fun to try it for the first time! I got the giggles quite a lot and I found some things quite nerve-racking like the writing for instance, though I think everyone found that hard especially when you had to write with an ink pen-the ink would go everywhere! I defiantly found Victorian one of my highlights!

A little Twist of Oliver

Oliver was great; it was refreshing to get out of my comfort zone with the acting and singing. I am so glad we did Oliver because now I have those great songs stuck in my head, I also was really happy with my role and learning the lines was interesting seeing as I was pushing myself so that I added extra expression into my speech and my movements. When I went up on stage I had a mixture of emotions- I was excited and a bit nervous, but when I got into it I was fine and started to enjoy myself with the singing and acting! When we watched the DVD it was funny watching myself, I found it quite embarrassing to see how I did and seeing people’s reactions (there reactions were good!) When the DVD was finished it seemed that it must have been a great show! Oliver was really fun and interesting and I loved doing it and seeing how talented some of the class are!

Year6 has been so great and loads of fun!! I am excited about next term and looking forward to more exciting events like the ones we have had this year! Can’t wait…

Zac's term 2 highlights

My highlights for this term had to be March of the Penguins, Myst, Oliver and Dibba. My overall favorite would be Dibba because i had so much fun conquering the rock climbing wall and going over jumps in mountain biking. Myst was excellent to because i really enjoyed improving our descriptive writing (and playing the game). I thought it was a really good idea to base descriptive writing on a PC game. March of the Penguins was fun because we had to put all are knowledge of the computers and put them into the one big thing. It was also really great because we got to show off are computer skills and use are imagination. Oliver, Oliver, Oliver cannot get over how brilliant it was, everyone put sssoooo much effort and enthusiasm into it it almost was as good as the original play. I really enjoyed learning the lines and going through the different parts of the play.

Ys, this term i had so much fun Ihope everyone else did to.

Zac

Becky thinks....

I have LOVED term 2. Wev'e done so many exciting things including:

Penguin work- I really enjoyed our work on the penguins, all the presentations were really good and I learned a lot of new info.

Dibba- Dibba was amazing, I enjoyed every bit of it! I was in a cabin with the rest of the funky monkeys, Eloise, Lucy and Lauren. When we first got there I did mountain biking, which I had never done before, and I found it exciting, scary and hard work all at the same time! The second day I did kayaking and GPS. In kayaking it was really great but after falling out and bruising yourself several times it got a bit cold and chilly. In GPS I was with Kristi and Ashleigh and I went a bit crazy, there was a scary man who kept following us everywhere! Our word was walking. And finally I did rock climbing, abseiling and archery. I was quite good at rock climbing but I found the abseiling quite nerve racking, especially at the beginning when you lean back. In archery I had to use a special lefted handed bow and the thing you balance the arrow on was broken so I had to where socks on my hands!

A little Twist of Oliver!- I loved doing a little twist of Oliver, everyone put so much effort into it and I thought Chris and Jamal did particularly well in it. I can't wait till the summer production I hope it will be as good as this!
Victorian day- I thought victorian day was super fun but really scary, well done to all the teachers for staying so well in character! I got told of loads of times, I really wouldn't want to be a child in the victorian times! The classrooms looked amazing with all the blacked out windows, it really brought the day to life. My name was Mildred Sidwell and Olivia was my sister, Victoria Sidwell. I loved doing the writing even though I'm left handed and my writing was really messy!

Overall I think year 6 has been wonderful, way better than I thought it would be! I can't wait until next term except for the Silly Annoying Tests but they have to be done. Get it?! I hope everyones had just as much fun as I have had!

Becky

Rory reflects on term2!

RORY REFLECTS ON TERM 2
This term has been really amazing and I cant wait until next term. We have done loads

of activity's such as the myst writing, penguin photo storys ,Dibba, Oliver and Victorian

day.

Myst was really good and everybody produced a quality piece of work. We also played the game

although I didn't do that well at it !

During our ICT week we did our penguin photostorys with Mr Wood. It was really fun and I learnt

allot of new ICT skills. Also, as part of our penguin theme we did some abstract penguin art,

which were also really good.Instead of a whole penguin we did small but detailedbits. They looked

really effective.

Oliver tied in really well with our Victorian work and everybody learnt there lines and stuff. Also,

people who are not very confident at acting did well and you really couldn't notice a difference. I

think Jamal, Cris and Alec did extremely well and Jamal should stop kings and o to acting school.

He has got some real talent!

Victorian day was really different to anything i have done before and I feel really sorry for the real victorian

children! school must have been hell for them!
Thankyou for such a wonderful term

Rory

Victorian Day by Benedict Hetherby - A.K.A Paul

Victorian Day.

When we arrived at school we all had to line up either side of the school gates. Girls one side and boys on the other. When Mr Johnson arrived we all stood to attention. I got told off for smiling, I got quite a fright. Mr Johnson was so strict. We marched off to class and to my surprise we were in separate classrooms. The classrooms were great, really old fashioned looking. I did really well at writing with the quill and ink. Mr Johnson actually said I had very neat handwriting.

We did not have much of a playtime, it was all very quiet and a lot of walking around the field.

We learnt about the potato and where it came from. We did some Geography and science and also some poetry. We learnt the national anthem, which we sung quite a few times.

The worst part of the day was the ‘gruel’ I actually thought I was going to be sick. It was very lumpy and watery.

James M reflects on being a Victorian in school

I got really excited about Victorian Day and I woke up at 4.30 and couldn’t go back to sleep! When we went to school, I felt a bit nervous when Mr Watson and Miss Bates first came out, because they looked scary and serious. Mr Watson yelled at some people who were talking in the line and he checked to see if our hands and shoes were clean.

When I first entered the classroom, it was dark and black and I sat down next to Richard at the front which was really the back of the class! The girls were in Miss Bates’ classroom and the boys were in Mr Watson’s room. Mr Whitehead came to the class and he was really scary too. He yelled at Dan and Adam for laughing and being a dunce. I got into trouble for leaving my quill out once and I got shouted at a few times. I also lost my name tag. We weren’t allowed to write with our left hand, so I had to try and use my right hand. My writing was quite good with my right hand.

After recess they gave us mingin gruel. I got given extra because I gave Mr Watson some banana bread, but I didn’t think it was such a good reward. I ate half and then felt like throwing up and so didn’t eat the rest. Richard said it didn’t taste like anything and he ate it all!

We had to do drills and we learnt how to march properly. I quite enjoyed doing that.
Overall, I thought the day was good and fun.

Matthew on Victorian Day

Victorian Day

On Thursday the 25th March 2010 year 6 experienced a harsh day in the life of a Victorian school child. We all dressed up for this occasion and so did Mr Watson and Miss Bates, who played the roles of Mr Johnston and Miss Lawrence as teachers in King George. The classrooms were made to look like a Victorian classroom with black card covering the windows meaning that only strips of sunlight could come bursting through the gaps. All the desks were made to look like Victorian desks and the work we did during the day was the same work that Victorians would have done.

The Day

When we arrived at the gate we all had to get into two lines one for boys and one for girls. If there was any talking or laughing it would be the back of the line. When Mr Johnston and Miss Lawrence arrived they did a hand inspection. After the inspection Mr Johnston lead the boys into King George and waited for us to all find a place. When this was done Mr Johnston told us some rules and went through the extremely tough day ahead, but to start with it was assembly. In assembly we were introduced to the rest of the school as strangers from the past and that they were not allowed to speak to us.

At the end of assembly we went back to class and had our first Victorian activity of the day, this was handwriting using a quill and ink. We were given a copybook which had exercises in them, whilst we were writing our manes on the front of the copybooks we got told to work in silence. By the time people had finished 3 or 4 exercises it was time for recess. At recess we were allowed to talk but no having fun, eat and walk around the field, for only 15minutes. When recess was over Mr Johnston rang the bell and everyone came back into class.

After recess it was time for a bit of Arithmetic, Science, Poetry, History and Geography. In this time we learnt about the potato, where it came from, who brought it to England and where in England the best potatoes come from. We learnt a few poems, a song, the national anthem and our 1x tables. This lesson took a bit of time because lots of people were being sent to the dunce’s corner or being caned.

After that activity it was time for another recess. Again recess was extremely boring and only lasted 15-20minutes. After recess we had a Victorian school lunch, and yes you guessed it, it was Gruel. After having the Gruel it was drill, in drill we had a short warm up then we moved onto marching in a straight line. Like the rest of the day we were not allowed to have fun or talk.

At the end of drill we went back to the classroom and had a chat about the day. We talked about our favourite pats of the day and our worst parts of the day.

My favourite part of the day was definitely learning about the potato as I learnt so much from it, but the worst part of my day certainly had to be eating Gruel.
