Fun Challenge - Animal similes

We are looking at classification and variation in Theme lessons now as aprt of the "it's good to be me' theme.

Adam B asked me about animal similes and I thought it would be a great idea to have a little blog challenge. Can think of any human/animal similes (like 'as fast a puma') ?  Do you know any? If so add them as comments to this post - remember to include your name and house group, so we can see which team contributes the most ideas.
Can you think of your own animal similes?

Good luck.
Mr Watson

It's good to be me...Natasha

“It’s good to be me.............”
I am generally a happy person.
I love sport and I am good at it. That makes me feel good about myself.
I like to make lots of friends.
When I grow up I would like to be a tennis player or a singer whichever one comes first.
When I went to Ho Ch Mein City (Saigon) in Vietnam for New Year, I was running down the hotel hall and I crashed into the wall just outside the lifts. My lip was split and was swollen like balloon. My brother thought that it was very funny but I did not join in the laughter.
Mum and dad put me to bed and when I fell asleep they went with my brother to the hotel New Year party. I was not impressed when I found out.
I was born in 1998 on the 27th of February in Sydney, Australia.
There are 5 people in my family. My brother Alex, my mum and dad and my cat, Spliffy.

It's good to be me.... Well I think it is.

One of the best things about being me is having a job I really love. I love teaching and love working at Kings'. You might not know that I have been here since Kings opened - this is my 6th year now. Before life in year 6 I used to be in Keystage 1 (Year 1 and 2) and last year moved to Keystage 2 (Year 5). I have really enjoyed teaching in each year group and honestly can't choose a favourite.. I've met lots of wonderful pupils and staff whilst working here.

Another great thing about being me is having great friends and a supportive family. I have some wonderful friends both in England and here in Dubai too. I even have some further afield around the world, like in Canada and South Africa . My best friends are Ian, Lisa and Steve. I miss them but agian try my best to be in touch with them. I have also made good friend with people in Dubai, and those who use to be in Dubai too.

I am lucky enough to get on really well with my mum, dad and brother (David) - they are always there for me, and we have lots fo fun together too. I miss them when I am here but talk lots on the ohone to them.

The final thing I want to share with you about myself is my hobbies. Most of you know I love music and really enjoy playing the drums. I also like listening to music - my Ipod is always on.

I am also a passionate football fan, although I am not enjoying this at the moment because my beloved Ipswich Town are really playing badly and not winning games. Come on you Blues!!!!

If I had to use 3 words to best describe me I would say I am

  • enthusiastic

  • hardworking

  • passionate

Mr Watson

What does make me special?

I think I am special because I have different personalities. I can be funny angry and happy but my personal favourite is happy. My aim in the future is to become a cricketer for Australia and I am always outside smacking a ball or working out cricket strategies on the X box.

I am unusual because I can ride my bike with no hands and I have got friends and family all over the world, friends in Aus, and cousins in Greece, grandparents in South Africa, uncles and aunts in England and finally we live in Dubai!!!

Josh P's Ecoli project

E.coli
By Joshua Penhaligan 6JW

I decided to do my project on E.coli. Because of all the news in England about the out brake of E.coli in petting farms. I found this interesting and concerning because when I go home on holiday I normally go and visit 2 or 3 different farms.
Godstone Farm in Surry was the first Farm to have reported the first case of E.coli.
It has been confirmed a total of 49 cases of E.coli have been linked to Godstone Farm in Surrey, and they closed their gates last Saturday 12th September.
Animals at petting farm
The second farm to close was Horton park farm at Epsam non cases of E.coli have been reported.
The third farm to close was white post farm in Nottingham with 4 reported cases of E.coli.

The fourth farm to close was Country Life in Devon.
Some of the children have been confirmed as suffering from the same type of E.coli.

The following was reported on Sky News
The Department of Health has asked for a review of petting farm guidelines as a fourth site is linked to cases of E.coli.

Question were now being asked about petting farm guidelines because of the outbreak.
The recommendations include making sure there are sufficient washing facilities so visitors can clean their hands immediately after coming into contact with animals.
Maybe for the under-fives they could have a separate area from the other children... where there's bunnies that have been screened or they've grown-up indoors.

I was born in the Wirral which is close to Liverpool in England.

I think it is good to be me because I am healthy, living in Dubai, have a loving family and lots of friends and I go to a fantastic school.

Weird fact- I used to be really into Thomas the tank engine when I was little and I could recognize all of the faces of the little wooden engines without showing the rest of the train.

I love Liverpool football club with a passion and my favourite player is Steven Gerrard

I aim to get a good job when I am older but I have no idea what. One day I would also like to go to Brazil and play football on the famous beach in Rio de Janerio.

‘It’s good to be me.’

Why are we special?

We are all special because we are all different. If we were all the same it would be very boring! What makes us unique is our character, personality, looks, temperament, sense of humor and ambition.

The most unusual fact about me is that I am the only grandson on my Dad’s side of the family that will carry on the Orford surname.

The best thing about me is being me, Paul Michael Harle Orford!!

My ambition is to do well in my third golf tournament on the 24th October 2009 and hopefully get into the top ten.

Hi, my name’s Chris and I like that name. I live ina wonderful, kind family. True, sometimes I can get mad at them, or the other way round.

It's good to be me because I like being kind and having GOOD friends.

An interesting fact about me:
I am related to Wally Hayward who was a famous runner (you might not know him but he was famous!)
He was my Dad's, Mum's, Father and he ran a very long marathon called the COMRADES marathon, which was 56 miles and is held in South Africa. He ran it 6 times when he was younger and won all of them, but when he was about 79-80 he decided to run it 2 more times. (he didn't win but he did finish the race.)
Some aims that I would hope that would happen in the future would be get an important job, such as house captain, head girl, student council or captain of the netball team.
Also something I would really, really like is to go to Dubai College next year!

It's good to be English / Arabic !

This is a paragraph from my house captain presentation about me being English and Arabic.

Cultural awareness and equal opportunities are important things to me. I am from a mixed heritage; my father is English, my mother is Arabic. This is an English school in an Arabic country. It is vital to know and understand about different cultures and traditions in our school. Everyone is different yet everyone is equal.

It's good to be me .... by Emily

Hi Everyone -

Here is my good-to-be-me post:

It's good to be me cause I'm very lucky that my family is healthy and has enough money and that we have a good life. I am reading a book about girls in Afghanistan who have no school or books or stationery, so I am lucky about that too.

An interesting fact about me is that I'm good at gymnastics. People are always surprised when they see that I can sort of put two feet over my head, so that I am twisted like a human pretzel. My mum used to be able to do it when she was younger, too.

I'm also the only person I know who would like to be a travelling writer and photographer for National Geographic. If I can make that dream come true, I will have a very very interesting life ahead of me.

I also might want to be an author or a teacher, or a director, or an actress. Really, I don't know what I want to be!
I hope this is enough about me!!

Emily

It’s Good to be James Dale!

I think I’m Special because ...
I am the youngest boy in the whole of Year 6, but one of the fastest runners.
I am the youngest in my family, I have two older brothers and an older sister so I get lots of special treats.

I Have a serious allergy to peanuts and I have to be careful what I eat, I also have to take lots of medicine if I have an allergic reaction or if It’s really bad and I can’t breath I have an epipen.

I am unusual because ...
I have 3 nephews and 1 niece. One of them is older than me! They call me ‘Uncle James’!!!

I think one of the best things about me is ...

I like to be friends with everyone.

My ambition in life is ...
To play for Manchester United when I grow up, or run for England in the Olympics.
I would also like to work for the R.S.P.C.A because I love animals and especially dogs.

I am lucky because ...
I have been to lots of nice places in the world such as America, Spain, France, Kenya, Thailand, Cyprus, and the Maldives. I am healthy and have a nice way of living, but a lot of other children don’t have this. And so I am very grateful for what I have.

Charlotte says "it's good to be me"

It’s good to be me…

I am unique because I have a double jointed thumb which people think it’s pretty gross because I move it back and forth in a rather disgusting way.
My favourite car is a Lamborghini X Spyder, my favourite colour is black and I enjoy swimming a lot.

What makes me unique is I am me and there isn’t another me in the world!

The best thing about me is that I’m funny and kind to other people.

My major ambition in life is to be a Forensic Anthropologist – this person works with Crime Fighting Organizations eg. The Police.

What this person does is collect bones of unidentified bodies and investigates the circumstances of death at crime scenes or where found in unusual circumstances.

So to finish off I know I am going to have to WORK REALLY HARD at school in all science subjects…oh yeah and MATHS and ENGLISH…

Here is my post it's good to be me. I was born in Australia in August 1999. That means my birthstone is a peridot, and, since my birthday is the 21st, my starsign is a Leo. I just turned 10 this summer, and now some of you are already turning 11! I like to do lots of different things, like: surfing, cooking, dancing, and swimming. My favourite animal is a tiger and my favourite colour is blue. When I grow up I want to be a lot of different things such as a marine biologist, a vet, a dancer, and a dentist. Overall, I have great fun being me! :)

From Hazel

It's good to be me (Tomas)

It's good to be me (Tomas)

My name is Tomas. I was born on the 8, 9, 98. That is a special birthday because it can be read either way, backwards or forwards. In Spain the day is known as a capicua which is supposed to bring luck.

I am from 4 different countries such as Lebanon, Spain, England and Germany.

I am good at pretty much all sports (I mean boy sports) such as Football, Cricket and Rugby. I am also good at Swimming and Athletics. I am very active and love playing playground games like Bulldog and build up tag. When I get taught how to play a game I sometimes know the game already, just with slightly different rules.

When I am learning something new I usually remember what to do.
I have a long time memory and often help mum and dad remember what the parking lot number is.
When I am older I would like to be an engineer because I love building things. I would also like to be an athlete, because I love running and I like competing.

Did you know?

Did you know Oisin and I share the same birthday?
10th April!!! I'm a few years older though!!!

Mr Watson

Oisin - why it is good to be me!

G'day my name is Oisin. I was born in Sydney, Australia on the 10th of April 1999. I am also from New Zealand and Ireland and i have cousins in 10 countries worldwide. I have 3 home countries which makes me lucky. I enjoy many proper sports including football where I play on the right wing, rugby where I'm a half back(scrum half) and many more. Luckily my healthy body can put up with this. I love running around and making myself hot and sweaty in games such as bulldog in the school yard.

I can curl my tounge in 3 ways at the same time, making a shamrock(the national symbol of Ireland). I love learning new sports and games. One of my favourite hobbies out of school is to play my clarinet. Soon i will be preparing for my grade 3 exam.

Its good to be me because I enjoy a lot of stuff, music, sport and school work. Thankfully I'm not bad at them all.

Here are some of the things that I think make me different,

I like computers and not football that much, I don't do as
much sports as everyone else and I can't bend my body
parts like some people.
Some of the interesting facts about myself are that I like
to build models like lego and warhammer, I have two cousins

I play the piano and trumpet.

Also when I'm older I want to invent something amazing.

Greetings from Mr O'Brien

Greetings Year 6 from Mr O'Brien

I love your new blog it looks amazing and it is so nice to see what you got up to over the summer (Alex in particular I love your shakey face ask Mr Watson, Mr Henrys and Mr Wood to show you theirs. On second thoughts don't it may give you nightmares) .

I am back teaching in England and have got Year 6 again so it would be great to share work over the year. Your research on microorganisms looks fab and I will take a look at those websites to show my class.

It looks like you have had a busy start to the term already and a big well done to all those people who have been voted into positions such as student council and house captains. I know it's not easy to stand up at the front and talk to so many people about yourself so a massive well done to all those people that did have a go.

I will now sign off with some extremely important advice to you all so please listen very carefully... DON'T be brainwashed by Mr Watson into supporting Ipswich Town you will only set yourself up for a life of cruel hardship, just look at him closely and think does this look like a man who is happy supporting such a team. No, no, no obviously we all know Arsenal are best and I look forward to hearing from my fellow gooners (Oisin take a look at yourself again for supporting Chelsea).

Take care Year 6

Happy Blogging

Mr O'Brien
